It would be useful, in terms of privacy, if I could hide from other users whether I have read their mail or not. Likewise, it would be nice to not know if other users had read/deleted my mail.
Aside from general privacy, this would reduce some of the spam sent by some users: many people seem to get irked when a message has been read but no response has come back. The easy solution to this is to hide from the sender the message's "read" status. |

Not convinced about this one.
The serial messagers will simply think of something else to say
so constant streams of "did you get/read/like my message?" messages come through instead
if you dont want to know the status of messages you have sent, just delete them from your sent box as soon as you have sent it. |

Agree that it would be good to be able to hide from the sender the status of their email.
Having a sent box is fine, just so one can recall what has been sent, but don't see any value whatsoever in knowing if an email has been opened or deleted. |

"if you dont want to know the status of messages you have sent, just delete them from your sent box as soon as you have sent it."
You've missed the point. It's not that I care about whether other people have read my messages.
It's a basic privacy thing. Why should I reveal to others whether I've read their mail? Why should I know whether others have read their mail? |
