Positive action against timewasters

Hard as I try to spot them a mile away, still the occasional one squiggles his way through.

Latest culprit came with verifications and a profile note about respecting each other's time. He must have been very bored to even be wasting his. Now, I know they can be reported as no shows but shouldn't there a less resource intensive and more robust process? For example, a two check system where each party confirms first they have arranged to meet each other and then confirming they have met, four checks between both parties and we can maintain a semblance of genuineness. A slightly more sophisticated veri system that would cut down drastically on reporting to admin and maintain faith on the users who do show up. Thanks for reading.

Surely this wouldnt be hard to achieve amd the only people would be negatively effected are the ones who are time wasters in the first place

Nice idea, but still open to abuse. Suppose we arrange to meet someone, we both register the fact pre-meet. We both turn up, but we decide that actually, in the flesh, we don't really click with the person, so we politely decline to "take it upstairs" and leave alone. That person then gets the hump at the rejection, so refuses to verify the fact we turned up.

We end up with a black mark against our name as a no-show, despite having done nothing wrong.

To be honest, even when you report no shows nothing appears to be done. The account remains active so is there any point reporting ?

No because they can deny they didn't let you know they wouldn't turn up .it to hard to prove a no.show so they can't be banned

No I don't agree. People change their minds and stuff comes up in real life to sabotage meets. A system as you suggest would be open to abuse and unworkable. X

I think there are similar systems in use on other sites, and there are the same “time waster” threads in their forums....so I don’t think it would work.

I personally think a more “eBay” style of feedback would work so that all feed back (good, bad, ugly) is visible on your profile, not just the ones people chose to show x

I think, and this is purely my thoughts, but i think people should be responsible for their own actions.

If you keep getting no shows, who or what is the common denominator in that equation?

Be responsible for your own actions and stop relying on others

Oh,and maybe drop being so gullible

Thanks all for your feedback, good to see other points of view.

In respect to not taking it upstairs the system would have to work in conjunction with geo location. Within a quarter mile is usually an indication that there's been enough proximity to the host fabber to account for that scenario, unless it's a neighbour or someone who is willing to waste their own time to the extent of getting that close.

As per responsibility for own actions I'm all for that, I'll take responsibility for my own as much as timewasters take their fair share for theirs. This particular case was someone who was visiting from out of town, with four verifications, so I had no reason to doubt their honesty, especially as they also had a line in their profile about respecting each other's time. It's about creating a community that thrives on mutual trust and ing out trolling behaviours.

Not venting, just saying.

It would be interesting to get the thoughts of an admin too, if one reads this.

Totally agree. The couple I’ve been meeting have reported 3 profiles for no shows and one for showing up and not being the same person as in the photos he sent. This has been over a couple of years. Each time they reported, and each time zero action has been taken.

Surely admin could have a secret system where reports of no shows are flagged and maybe operate a 3 strikes and out system? That way simply not clicking with someone one wouldn’t matter, but repeated reports would indicate a clearly fake profile.

Yes, there are flaws to this system, as any other. But simply ignoring the problem is flawed too.

I guess that some legal hotspot might even successfully argue that, as money for membership is charged (and to be transparent, I no longer upgrade), there is a duty on admin to ensure that reasonable steps are taken to remove profiles that aren’t genuine.

North of The Wall - youll need your vest

Here is an explanation from Admin from another thread on how they deal with reports.

******Just a quick note. If people report others and we can verify that they have broken site rules, we always take action (either a first and final warning, partially suspended account, fully suspended, mixture of the above).

Every single report sent via the REPORT link is reviewed. Clearly it's not in our interests to have people on here who are bad for the site. Equally we need to verify what has been reported and be fair to those who have been reported.

Admin

PS. we never provide feedback on what has happened. It's just not practical given that we get 100s of reports a day.

Here is what the page says after a report has been submitted:

--

Your feedback has been saved.

A website admin will shortly review your feedback and take the necessary action. After reviewing the evidence available to us, we may disable an account, remove a user, disable certain aspects of that user's account or issue a warning.

By leaving feedback you help improve the site for everyone who uses it. Thank you.******
