Why can Fab not block IP addresses?

There is a "couple" around in our area who come back. And back. And back.
They always stress they want face pics in every profile they make up.
They never have verifications. Of course.
We reported the latest fake profile this morning, and blocked it. It is no longer there, so assume it was deleted by admin. Then, lo and behold, another pops up this afternoon!
Why is it that Fab is not able or willing to block IP addresses? |

I have this problem, a previous meet has made over 20 profiles to keep messaging me. I block him, he leaves site then later rejoins and messages again. He has now started photo verifying to get past that filter block. He waits the 5 days. Now I have had to set my age filters at 45 which I don't really want to do. I have reported him 4 times now, as I have had enough. He is a policeman. X |

An IP address is not an identifier; it is a way of routing traffic across the internet (or a sufficiently big enough network that requires segments and routing between them). The individual IP address your internet connection is assigned is only there so the next hop in the network can talk to it. Think of them as the connector at the end of a pipe.
As a (hopefully) simplish example. Your computer connects to your router, your router connects to your ISP so your router needs two IPs. One for the private internal connection, one for the public external.
Your Computer: 192.168.0.10
Talks to router..
Router internal: 192.168.0.1
Router external: 101.101.101.101
Talks to the ISP..
ISP router: 101.101.101.1
The next time your router reconnects (this does not need a reboot, just dropping and logging back in "authenticating") it will be assigned a totally different "Router external" IP address
If FAB blocked an IP address (ie. blacklisted) and you happened to be assigned the same IP as they blacklisted yesterday or several years ago you would be awfully pissed off.
This does not even tackle the issue of VPNs (virtual private networks), encrypted connections, using TOR (onion routing), from mobile networks which use aggregation gateways and thousands of people appear to have the same IP, or any of the more technical mechanics of Internet Protocol addressed.
This is a simplified example of why blacklisting by IP is simply not a workable solution. IP filtering is more suited at large network level where you restrict based on country or working on a small whitelist of known "allowed" IPs.
And before anyone says about MAC (media access control) addresses. These can be changed in software once the device is booted and they are only used on your internal network. There is an ARP (address resolution protocol) table created by each computer that links the local IP to the physical network adapter's address (ie. it's MAC address). You can view this on Windows, Linux, or Apple by using a command/terminal. |

Just charge everyone a one off sign up fee of a pound then offer a discount if you upgrade your membership.
The fake profile gets reported, deleted, then has to pay another pound to sign up. They'll soon get bored of paying a pound each time they want to create a fake profile. |

How about changing the rules so that, if you're new, you have to be photo verified before you can send mail?
Paid up users can send mail without it (I can't see many time wasters throwing a fiver away once a day) and anyone verified by someone else - at least 24 hours after the profile was created - can too.
That wouldn't restrict genuine users (what genuine person gets verified the day they join...or couldn't wait a day for it to show).

"You can hide IP addresses so this is what they have done and admin can't trace them. "
Its very easy to hide ip addresses now, even for the novice but they are traceable when even hidden or even rotated by eve the most experienced spammer. It takes a little time to find the ones who are good at it but admin don't have the time, resources or money to do so |

I totally get why you say this
But
I'm a genuine user, always have been, never spammed, never been a timewasters but I have never been photo verified so I suppose with this idea genuine people will go elsewhere. I've usually always been a site supporter. I'm here because I'm on for laughs, banter and naughty fun and treating people the way I'd like to be treated as well.
And for information, here is an example. There was one faker who made up fake girls profiles, young, looking for older guys and adding a kik to the profile. Now with experience, he adds profiles, just waits 2 or 3 weeks then adds a kik to the profiles to lure people in. Fakers are learning as well and using methods to get by fab and that example is only a basic one.

Valid points! I'm not offering *the* solution to this, just an idea that might start a discussion that results in one! |

Totally agree and everything on this is all relative as admin designers / admin owners might think of an idea due to reading the pros and cons.
That's how I work out when designing a website and stop spammers etc...

Seems to be chapter and verse, nice one, thanks |

most ip addresses with most ISPs aren't static and change everytime(well most times ) the router/modem resyncs or rebbots,is switched off and back on,mac addresses are fixed and supposedly unique but they can be spoofed as well |

OP.
Why are you so bothered by this profile, you say you block them, good for you, that's what the block button is for.. why do you assume they are fake though?
I refuse to provide a face picture. Don't show most of my verifications and even then very rarely have any. Am I fake? |

Why is it that Fab is not able or willing to block IP addresses?" its maybe due to software the site uses or maybe its bad for business |

Why not just block new profiles, unverified profiles, profiles without pics.
That would solve some of the problem |

I doubt it's bad for business. Fake profiles don't buy memberships generally... |
