IP address to counter fake/multiple profiles

Judging by the number of new users each day in Chorley alone, it's no wonder the NHS is under strain!

Just throwing this out there but wouldn't it be possible to use the IP address of a device, to prevent a 'new' user opening multiple accounts?

Of course they could have an account per device; but the prospect of having to buy a new phone each time they want to join Fab, would surely reduce the number of idiots on here.

Hiding in the shadows

So what about couples, who may also each have a singles account, so 3 profiles on the same IP?

Or, club owners, events organisers, running business & personal profiles?

How about when I visit friends, I often log onto their WiFi, or at a social event, there would have been 15 of us all on the same hotel IP last weekend.

As for more than one device, I use my phone mostly, but occasionally log on from my tablet or laptop. All 3 have separate WiFi, and a different IP.

Most people these days already have multiple devices.

Blocking profiles via IP is a minefield, that the admins on here, all unpaid volunteers, would have to spend hours a day investigating to make sure genuine

As we said, just throwing it out there, and to be fair it is the Fabswingers.com site feedback forum.

A device doesn’t have a fixed IP address normally. Mac addresses could be used but I access Fab from my phone and two laptops, Lass the same.

Fully understand, and it's obviously not profiles like either of yours that we are talking about.

Just frustrating that a fantastic site like this is so blighted. By our reckoning, about 80% of the population of our small town are swingers!

Not sure if we had any influence, but shortly after messaging the site owners regarding the possibility of putting all messages from one user on one thread, they listened to someone.

Just trying to kick around ideas to improve a site, that you are as fond of as we are.

We just use the filters that the site provides and some common sense, but to be honest we hardly use the site to arrange to meets anymore clubs are so much easier

Widnes

Its easy enough to get an ip blocker so there would be no point blocking someones IP address

In the UK, the vast majority of home connections to the net are made via dynamic IP addresses i.e. users get a new IP address from their ISP every time they connect to the net. Doesn't change as often as it used to under dialup, but all a user would need to do is reboot their router, voila a new IP.

I think the underlying point perhaps is not the specific technical solution suggested (I'm no techie so can't venture an opinion) but rather way(s) to deter/ out the spam/pic collector profiles that pop up and then disappear a day or three later, sometimes after engaging one in conversation... very frustrating and they're by no means always obvious (the 19 y.o. nymphomaniacs with no profile text maybe lol but not all!). I myself favour a simple tactic of mandatory photo verification for all new single female profiles, which wouldn't be a 100% solution but would help...

North West

an IP block would be pointless, my IP changes every time I reconnect. I can set the time out on my router for 2 minutes so every 2 minutes I would get a new IP.

My friend on here says simply block new users, and unverified users, this will effectively wipe the problem

Not really a problem single guys have.
