Filter ages you don't want to hear from

(after lots of requests, new today 27 sept 2011)
We've added the ability to filter ages you don't want to be contacted from, via your filters page.
You can get to this from "MY ACCOUNT" then "Message Filters" on left hand side, or direct:
http://www.fabswingers.com/my/filters
If you set to be not contactable by anyone outside your preferred age range, they'll not be able to wink/pm/friend you.
It works the same way as the other filters i.e. if you mail someone first, they can reply, if you wink they can reply and if you have them as a friend they can reply.
If someone gets the age range block message when trying to mail you, then goes direct to change their age and tries to contact you they remain blocked for the rest of the day to discourage this behaviour.
Any feedback welcome in this thread.

How this works with couples:
There were two options we could have run with. It could have checked that both couples are within the age range, or it could have checked that one is within the age range.
We have gone with the one that looks to see if one of the couple is within the age range.
So if you're looking for ages "18-45" and the couple are aged 35 and 47, they will be able to mail you.

You have it all setup correct we've emailed you privately with why this user's mail came through. The filter is working OK.

Age is just a number!! Remember that people! ...I'm a young looking 26yo, say someone only wants young guys between 18-25...that means I will be blocked now, when possibly could have been what they wanted...or if an older lady wants 27-35yo again i will be blocked!
Maybe a better idea would have been to block age ranges?? As in 18-30 (young people), 30-45(middle aged), 45-65 (older people) etc and maybe have an option to overlap? So you could tick 30-45 but with a 2 year each way overlap?
Instead of exact ages, as seems a little silly! As you can get 18yo's who are more mature than some 30yo's on here etc so to stop someone just because of their age??
But then again if your the type to block someone who is 1/2 years out of your age range then probably not the sort of person you would want to meet anyways! plus saves alot of people time i guess so it is a good idea, just should have been age ranges not exact ages! :D |

I want to meet someone over 45, not a 44 year old but OVER 45. My choice. if a 44 year old gets the hump with that - oh well, my choice.
I really do struggle to understand people who refuse to accept that (a) they will never everyone's cup of java and (b) people are allowed preferences that do not include them.
A whole lot of assumption to think that someone will want to hear from you just because you're in their preferred age range.
Accept with good grace that people are allowed to pick, choose and refuse! |

I've got to say I'm chuffed to bits that we can filter precisely who we get messages from. I was sick to the back teeth of the "I know you are not looking for someone my age but I am exceptional...." messages.
Just look how many people are happy with the new filters... it speaks volumes. |

because of this i have changed my age range today to 28-42, where it was, 30-40, others may think along the same lines x |

Thank you for this addition Admin. Was really fed up with 20somethings contacting me saying they are mature for their age & to give them a chance! Some people don't get it that we all have preferences & mine is for guys older than me, although I have put 30 as the minimum to be fair, lol |

That kinda happened to us (see further up thread) ^^^^^^
Admin took a look at out a/c and the feedback was that we had exchanged messages in the past.... that would have excluded the user from the filters.
We are guessing we had said "thanks, but no thanks" to him after he had shown an interest previously. |

Well I can't block him as when I tried to view the message, it had the message that says he has been suspended (well I did report him), you have blocked him or he has blocked you |

Thanks a lot for doing this for us. it really does make life a lot easier for us.
I've just looked at the 'looked at me' 9 out of the last 10 were in their 20/30s I'm looking for over 40s as I am 50. So that's saved a lot of grief.

I do get so fed up with the age is just a number saying and it always seems to come out of the mouths of babes, as the saying goes. Stop showing off because now you are blocked from messaging people and where do you get the idea from that you could possibly have been what they wanted? If people are interested, then you will be able to message them so I don't see what the problem is. And don't forget there are some of us that are really not interested in your age group full stop ie same age as kids, and some of us who just are not attracted to your age group, simple as that. In fact my age filter is set to 40-55 and it will stay like that for maybe another 5 yrs. If I fancy someone the look of someone outside that filter, I will contact them but I do get fed up being contacted by your age group which shows they clearly haven't read my profile. And nothing they can say will make me change my mind |

This does not work. I have a friends request from someone, which I have accepted, I can't mail because I am outside their age range.
They have mailed me, I can't reply because they are outside my age range.
She changed her age range to allow me to mail her and I can't mail, the message being that I can't change my age range.
A great idea if it worked, but very frustrating because it is not working.... |

The young lady in question is inside my age range, i was outside hers. We chated in the chat rooms and got on well ( i am very charming you see) but a i didnt check her age range so tried to mail her and got blocked. This is very rare as i am usualy quite fastideous about checking this sort of thing) and b i did not know about the age range filter...
I expected the problem to be sorted with a friends request (which she sent) but i was still blocked. She then mailed me (which again, i thought wozld sort the problem, but didn't. She must have been keen as she went so far as to changr het age range up to 34, but i was then blocked again as the site told me i could not change my age range to avoid the age filter. What a jib!
Its hard enouh for single men without admin makimg it even more dificult! (lol, thst was in jest...)
I didnt change anything on my orofile so think the last bit is a bug... |

Georgey, you might find that this has cured itself, by tomorrow. Admin have put some protection in place, to prevent people trying to 'get round' other people's filters when it would be UNWELCOME ...... see Admin's first post on this thread. x |

Its, so I have been told, because if they have messaged you before, they can still message you. I have still had a few that have sent me a message that are outside my age preference that haven't messaged me before as I asked so its not foolproof  |

The only way people can contact you outside your age range is if you've contacted them before e.g. wink/mail.

Just to confirm: This is a bug and we'll fix it this week. The block shouldn't trigger unless you've attempted to change your age after an age block.
