Using same IP address for multiple accounts

There's a guy on here who I know to have four accounts, and I've blocked him in all four accounts. He still uses them as I can see him online on my block list.

If someone is at home, using their wifi, is there no way of stopping someone opening multiple accounts on the same IP address. I know you can't stop them when using public WiFi.

It makes me sad that people behave like this but it's something I've got used to on fab and just block and ignore as a rule as I'm here to have fun

In theory, this is really simple, it just depends on whether the admins are logging the supposed IP of the person creating or using an account. You can ban the ID from getting a request from your servers entirely with the right tools, it's actually very similar to businesses that hide their site from everyone's except trusted third parties like call centres.

The issue you have is that it's labour intensive to keep that person off, seeing as they could just use a mobile connection which I'm pretty sure is dynamic if you reconnect, or use a VPN anyway to access from another IP using your usual home network. I'm also not sure it's legal to deny services without extensive reasoning, as this is primarily a tool you would use against an asshole causing a ddos attack.

Techie wise, most home user internet connections are dynamic, so it's impossible to block an IP address.

And in some cases now, a single IP address can have many internet connections behind it.

Mission most difficult I am afraid.

But, what a dickhead that "stalker".

This is true, however DHCP connections also often stick to specific routers via the Mac address. I was with sky, and has the same IP for like 2 months, with a number of router resets in between that.

I was able to set up remote computing on my phone thanks that lovely little quirk of theirs. Haha.

I guess it’s technically possible, one way or another, but..... I’m not keen on knowing the site logs everyone’s ip, and there are reasons people have multiple accounts - I had a joint mf and single m at one point.

Why can’t people just be honest and realise when they are being dicks!

You haven't stated what he's doing to you from these different account, but I'm sure if you report it, Admin will investigate.

As most homes have a Dynamic IP, which means it can change, if Fab blocked my IP I could get a new one and my old is assigned to someone else, and if by chance they wanted to join Fab they would find themselves blocked for no reason.

Doing this would mean that all the genuine users with more than one account would suffer. We know many couples that have a couple profile and a single profile each. Who is going to tell them they can only have 1 account per IP?

Fab does however prevent accounts created at the same IP from verifying each other. We discovered this when we helped a friend make a profile at our house, but we couldn't verify her.

Blocking the MAC address would be better but I'm not sure if this is possible over the Internet.

Hiding in the shadows

Some folks have multiple accounts for legit reasons, single M single F & a couples profile.

They'd all show on the same IP address.

I'm often at friends houses and log on via their WiFi, so you'd then have 2 accounts showing same IP.

If admin started blocking accounts showing as same IP it would cause a lot of problems for genuine users.

Yeah, totally understand that people have legitimate reasons for duplicate accounts from an IP address, my issue is with men who have them for no genuine reason.

Oh well, thanks all for taking the time to reply !
