"Vetted by the hosting site" presumably means vetted by some poor people having to watch them all to ensure they do not breach legal requirements.
That would require many more salaried staff and would have membership fee implications. |

You misunderstand. The films are already vetted and online on another site, Fab staff wouldn't need to do anything as the other site is already hosting them and bound by law to ensure legality, as are the uploaders - us |

Yes, the weak link, perhaps a short list of approved sites could help there or ones registered with a particular governing body. But that would mean some input from fab staff at some point. |

And a contract ... and regular reviews ... and monitoring ... and more staff.
On the whole, fabswingers keeps it quite tight here. They have enough people to monitor photos to make sure they are legal, to deal with enquiries, to ban people breaking the rules and to deal with disputes.
They don't get it right all the time but, bearing in mind you can join up for free, it is not a bad offering.
Open it up to videos and the certainty is that subscriptions would rise and free membership would no longer be an option.

Yes there are plenty of other sites for videos, of that we are aware, and we have quite a good profile on one of the better ones, my point is it's a shame I can't even tell people here where the clips are. We are also aware of how 'tight' Fab is kept and of it's bonuses. Still there should be a middle ground enabling us to share our stuff without the panic about rising subscriptions. The internet is ever evolving and if the sites don't keep up with what people want they get stagnant and are eventually userped by a site that offers everything.
I mean how difficult would it be for a web company to mirror Fab but add a video feature plus a couple of other bonuses, and would Fab then stay with their 'change is too costly' approach as their subscribers disappear to the site that offers it all.
It's ok to link Fab to my facebook or twitter or the other crap but not our y***** profile, can't even say the name, middle ground needed. |
