Filters after change of account type

I've recently noticed a number of couples in our area that split up and the profile then reads "just male playing now", and the profile gets switched to a single male (usually after a few days or so).

If we've previously had message contact with the COUPLE, would the single profile still be able to contact us due to the previous messages?

I'm guessing as they are now a single male, yes they could message you
