PLEASE can we have body type as a search option?

Hello my lovelies!

At the moment the only way you can seek out people with the body type you desire is to search through every profile in your area, check out body types and corresponding pictures - (as some body types can be ambiguous - particularly 'fabulous'!) or post a thread on the forums looking for a particular type, which has potential pitfalls:

Only a small percentage of fabbers read the forums - and even forumites don't read every thread!

If you're a woman you can request any height, body type you like - but if you're a ban looking for anything other than large or curvy ladies there are potential backlashes and pitfalls, (I have no issues with people who prefer larger/curvier ladies btw - I get my share of guys as all women do on fab!)

To me it would be so much simpler if, like on many dating sites, we could search and filter messages by body type!

This would benefit all of us!

It would allow guys to message ladies/couples with their desired body type more easily!

It would allow ladies to search in the same way - ie I wouldn't have the issue of being turned down by guys who prefer larger ladies!

It would also be great, I think, to be able to block people who don't match your desired body type - or people who aren't attracted to your body type!

Not only would this keep ladies inboxes at a more sensible level (I have over 450 unread messages and I know that's not unusual - some have many more!)

But it would also - I hope - cut down on some of the awful messages that some people get. Ie fems can't send guys who don't match their body type insulting replies (and I know this happens) and guys who prefer slender ladies can't send larger ladies nasty messages which, though horrid, seem to be common according to various forum threads!

So as far as I can see it's a win win!

So admin - can we have body type as a search option/filter option for everyone's sake please?

(Incidentally - though I'd use body type as a search option I wouldn't use it as a filter as I enjoy the thread - related banter with fellow forumites too much!

)

So - who agrees?

Who disagrees?

Who doesn't give a shit either way?

That's true!

Personally I think 'fabulous ' is pointless and needs to go! I've seen very slender people AND very large people describe themselves as fabulous!

I think perhaps it should be replaced with BBW - as many women happily say they are BBW's - and many guys love BBW's - so it would make it so much simpler for them to find each other!

Some curvy ladies might be classed as BBW - but many are slimmer than I am- just with bigger boobs (I hate em I hate em!! )

Actually Hun it's three in two days - but this is the only one specifically set up to request something I think we definitely need - particularly guys!!

Btw you're slacking Hun - you usually have 3 lines of emoticons - not one!

I'm in the 'I don't give a shit' camp.

Whilst there has to be a spark, I don't have a type as such. I like the clever, funny ones so it makes no odds if they have a dad bod or a gym bod. If they're able to get me mentally then I'm happy.

Body type isn't on my radar when looking for meets. I think it would be sad for searches to be made on body type. As you said yourself, everyone describes themselves differently. One size 10 female body will look very different from another size 10 female body.

I'm attracted to intelligence and humour. I'm not asking for those things to be search terms.

still wont work as some people would choose curvy option when others would just say theyre fat - or the other way when theyre slim but think theyre not

In the interests of equality why not then have a search option and filters for how well-endowed a guy is/isn't? Or go further and search out hair colour? Height? Weight? Bust size?

The list of preferences that could be added to a search is endless due to the varied tastes on Fab. Starting to block/filter out people based on their perceived desirability will just generate more dishonest profiles shaving off or adding inches and pounds instead of just years - and displaying out of date photos.

It's relatively easy to find what you're looking for from reading profiles and viewing pics, so why complicate matters? I'm incredibly fussy and particular in what I like - and I make no apologies for it - and since I'm neither a slim gym bunny nor a BBW I just don't bother messaging guys who state that's only what they're looking for. It's simple really!

This still comes across imo as a 'skinny vs BBW' thread - which I'm sure isn't the intention - but maybe that's because I'm in the 'don't give a shit' camp

I really don't give a toss about a body size filter but I'd like a height filter first - and that is far less subjective than body type!

If body size was going to be used as a selection criteria at the search stage I suspect you'll find people being more optimistic with what they use to describe themselves...

Of course the same could be said for height but at least that's an objective thing. As has been said before one man's curvy is another's too fat to fuck, and what the hell does athletic even mean anyway.

I am also in the "I don't give a hoot about body search engine options on here" surly we all know what we like and what our preference is, this subject has been dragged out far too much, clearly some people pigeon hole people more than others. Fab has worked perfectly well without this, and like lots have said one size 10 isn't the same as another!! Maybe some people have got far too much time on their hands to even think about this lol

I don't even look at what body type others have selected. I can normally tell from pics if i find a body attractive. As others have said it wouldn't have any meaning when people's interpretations of the categories vary magnificently. And I'm in the fabulous camp and I'm at neither end of the scale

And me! Couldn't of said it better myself. An awful lot of these 'I want the site to do this' 'find me that' sort of threads at the moment. What happened to good old 'read a profile/look at the pics - yep that's what I'm looking for' mentality? The cynic in me thinks all these threads are just thinly veiled 'look at me's'. Nothing about improving the site.

Not a bad idea as its only a box to tick if it is implemented. Don't see any fuss over it and will make looking for someone easier for some people.

Sorry?

If I wanted people to 'look at me' I'd hardly use the least used part of the forums - site feedback - to do it would I?

I posted this because a lot of people DO have preferred body types - and at the moment it's impossible to find that body type without trawling through loads of profiles! Its absolutely no different to searching by age - and most people have age guidelines on their profile - some keep it at 18-99. It wouldn't work any differently - and similarly would only be used by those who want it! If body type is not an issue to a person then they just wouldn't use it - simple!

Not just body type but all other search criteria would be good Eg hair colour, tattoos, race etc. Sometimes you might want to find a Curvy red and another day a slim Asian with tattoos, definitely better search options would be a plus. Xxx

I quite enjoy looking through profiles and pics and deciding on that as well as the text whether to chat.

I get a fair amount of mail as a single woman and don't really have an issue about it. I also don't think it would be particularly useful.

Anyway I'd probably be filtered out by loads that message me at the moment as I describe myself as curvy!

And not one person who has commented on this thread & said they don't give a shit - has described themselves as "slim" - majority are curvy or fabulous..!!!!!...hmmm ok

I am down as curvy size 10/12 as I am not stick thin & do have curves, in some of the right places - not all mind but hey I'm knocking on 40, I'm not bad for my age

I personally would like to see size grouping as way to many people bullshit about their size - I see men as "athletic" & they ain't seen the inside of a gym or running manchin in years - woman putting curvy when in actual fact they are fat - I'm a realist m, plain & simple - don't lie about your size, if your comfortable with it then be fucking honest

& whilst I'm having a rant - god damn Verifications giving it all you're so god damn amazing - bollocks that needs looking at too - star rating would be far better

Totally agree Lilac!!! When we go shopping do we all go with a shopping list for a Certain apple ffs lol(no idea why I said Apple) oh today I fancy this shape colour size, do we heck,we look with our eyes and select.

Some people may not sit in one category or another so how do they tick boxes. Get a grip and stop banging your chops on a drum that hardly many gives a toss about, think Fab has worked perfectly well,

"I don't really mind. I've enough pics public to show me.

My only niggle is...... people will have to be honest about their body and deodorant cans don't come that big

Some curvy ladies might be classed as BBW - but many are slimmer than I am- just with bigger boobs (I hate em I hate em!! )

Completely. Fabulous means nothing, or actually seems to mean anything, BBW would make a whole world of difference.

Can we have a box for average..or plain..or boring..?

All completely subjective and a waste of time

Really? The vast majority of the men I've seen you with would fall within the 'athletic' body type! Many people on fab have a preferred body type - I don't see why that's an issue to so many people - particularly women who will all - as always- be far from short of attention whatever their size!

My point is that I don't need a box to tick to find these guys..in fact it would probably prevent them finding me!

If they're looking for curvy ladies - or ladies in general - then they'll definitely find you! You have one of the most visible profiles on fab Hun and you're almost constantly on hot pictures - I seriously doubt you'd be overlooked! "

She's on hot pics cos her pics are absolutely amazing! Sometimes profiles stand out for all the right reason. Yep definite hot girlie!

& whilst I'm having a rant - god damn Verifications giving it all you're so god damn amazing - bollocks that needs looking at too - star rating would be far better "

Ooh nice sly dig there.

I use fabulous because I don't want to subject myself to someone else's bullshit definition, it's like a sod you, look at the photos and make your own pissing mind up. Perhaps slim women are happier describing themselves as slim because they're not the recipients of so much "you're not curvy you're fat", "you're not large you're curvy" bollocks from other people.

I'm not worried about being overlooked I just don't want to be put in a box. I'd much rather my pictures spoke for themselves.

On the star suggestion, this is no different to verification and equally open to abuse.

Pointless as body type is purely down to the persons own perception. Huge fat girls describing themselves as 'fabulous' whilst skinny guys with pot bellies say 'athletic'.

Neither is generally considered correct from the general viewpoint but it's down to personal perception.

I, for example, am probably 'curvy' but I feel beyond that. Not fishing here but that is MY perception from where I have been in my past.

Put your handbags away ladies!

I'm a lardy arse. I used curvy because I don't think fat is an option and you have to write something. I'd never describe myself as a BBW, mainly because I don't like the term personally.

I still don't require an option to search. When I'm looking to meet someone it's generally the text that grabs me first. I want a smart bloke and I'm not interested in those who can't see past my spare tyre or my extra chin.

I think it always will be Hun - and I'm not sure what the answer is! I do know that a lot of ladies who define themselves as curvy are just that - with hourglass figures to die for! Obviously people who aren't perhaps classically curvy call themselves curvy too - hence the confusion!

I'd be happy just putting my height and clothes size - but can understand that not everyone would want to do that!

If they brought in height and weight to determine search results I'd either just lie about my weight or resign myself to never meeting again because the weight I am sounds disgustingly heavy, in a way that my appearance doesn't suggest. And if I lied then what's really been gained? I can't be the only one who feels that way.

Anyway, this seems so insignificant compared to things like sorting out the messaging system to make it easier for all the slim and athletic people to actually communicate effectively with each other.

Bloody good question! I'd say it would work on the woman's body type! I don't play with couples much - but judging by the fact that most couple profile pics are of the woman - then I'm guessing it's the woman who they feel people would be predominantly interested in.

POF had a body type tick box. Obesity isn't my type I go for and they had that box as a tick option alongside all others. I don't see people storming off that site in protest. There are enough lies on this site without people telling porkies about their bodies. Be honest about self description. I can only see it as positive for this site.

For the 'all the slim and athletic people to actually communicate effectively with each other' makes you sound like a supremacy. Maybe a fat bloke is looking for a skinny girl and vice versa.

I see that you were trying to make a point in balance to all the BBW threads but now you're just coming across badly. Every female size based thread you comment on and it seems very much a fixation for you so I see why you having to sort through people based on their appearance is significant to you.

The irony is, I do recall your profile previously stating that your age was incorrect on your profile to hide from a stalker and you're actually older than was stating. Misleading for those that wanted women younger that you as you were 'cheating' the search criteria. Just as others would 'cheat' the body type segregation you want.

If POF are doing a better job of sifting through people, then try there instead of constantly banging on about size. This goes both ways btw... I'm sick of seeing BBW threads. People like what they like. Stop making people feel like shit in the forums.

I am very hard to please , so while you are adding search criteria for yourself add some for intelligent people too .

I can only say this topic disappointed me very much and I think all of you should go and kneel in a naughty corner .

To be fair to the OP that paragraph about slim and athletic people being able to contact each other was mine and I was being a teensy bit sarcastic.

But that's basically what this is all about, is it not. Wanting to exclude anyone above a certain weight from even being able to message at all, or wanting to be displayed more prominently in search results by virtue of being thin.

Reply privately (thread closed by moderator)

Why are people taking this so personally? The point of search filters is to reduce the volume of profiles one has to look through to find what one wants. Having a body type search added will help everyone find what they want easier.

I think the objections are coming more from people's own personal hang ups and issues, than a logical argument point of view.

Fundamentally, it just adding an additional search filter to hone the search result. Thus reducing the number of profiles one has to look through and read. This could be an additional search filter on anything, it's almost irrelevant it's on body shape / size. Overall, improved refined search with more filter options to reduce results. Body shape / size being one of them.

Simple

No it's got nothing to do with being thin or a BBW. It's about finding what you want easily.

So if a guy was looking for a BBW, why should he have to look through all the slim / athletic profile as well? As he isn't going to message them anyway. As it's not what he is looking for.

It's the same with people looking for slim / althetic body types, they have to look through the BBW profiles. Whom they are never going to message anyways as it's not what they are looking for.

People may well start threads in the forums extolling the virtues of BBW. But look at the hot pics, look at a thread where people are asked to identify their hottest fabber etc - and the slim is best dynamic from the outside world is clearly the mainstream here too. Again this is not a size issue. It's not about people's personal hang up. It's not about any of that crap at all. Honestly, bored of hearing about it! Yawn. We really don't care, we are on here for fun and that it. Don't want any complicated drama or issues.

But what we do want is a better search filter so we can find the profiles we want easily. Rather than trudging through thousands of profile to find what we want. It really simple, when you take the emotion and personal hang up out of it.

By your logic...let's remove age limits, gender, ethnicity, smoking / non smoking, sexuality etc. let's just view and read everyone's profile with no filters.

Anyway, this seems so insignificant compared to things like sorting out the messaging system to make it easier for all the slim and athletic people to actually communicate effectively with each other.

I think you may want to go back and check the post you're lambasting me for lovely! It wasn't made by me!!

I think the idea of most of those filters is pretty bad too tbh. How dare these men with penises less than 9 inches be able to even look at me! And if age filters are being used as the equivalent example...well what happens with age filters, people lie to stop themselves being excluded. What on earth makes anyone think this would be different?

If it's a perfectly innocent request then why the need for all the accompanying blurb about men not being able to express a preference for skin women and there being too many BBW threads? Forgive me a little skepticism. Someone's already said it better above about reducing people to a series of tick boxes.

Each to their own. Allow people to search / filter search results for what their personal taste / preference is. It's really hard to argue against that. This is the only thing this thread is about, search filters. The reason it's got messy is people's own personal issues and hang ups. Which has nothing to do with search filters.

Thank you! I have NO idea why this has been turned on to such a minefield! As far as I know it's an option that's available on every standard dating site!

It's simply taught me one thing - if people can possibly take offence at something - on fab you can be damned sure they will!!! Frankly I give up - I've been lambasted by many people simply for pointing out that there are a preponderance of pro big/curvy/BBW threads (where these lovely ladies and admirers can chat with each other and perhaps arrange to meet) but no corresponding threads for other sizes! Therefore how were people who liked other body types, including average, supposed to find them without trawling through every single profile?

I started a debate about the lack of other body size threads, specifically asking that no body type be insulted - and it was an interesting and informative debate!

I genuinely believed that allowing people to search for the body types that they're interested in, and to block people who aren't interested in their particular body type, would be a good thing for everyone but only if they actually wanted to use it! Not only would it stop men and couples from having to trawl through countless profiles to find what they're looking for, if people decide to block those who aren't interested in their body type then it could potentially prevent any 'fatty' and 'skinny Minnie' abuse that, from what people say on the forums, currently happens very regularly! I genuinely thought that I'd made a completely innocent suggestion that would potentially help everyone!

however, instead I've been lambasted and accused of being some kind of 'slim supremacist '!

Frankly I just feel like bursting into tears, and it's taught me a lot about the forums. People will jump down your throat however innocent your intentions! I wish I'd never started the bloody thread!

@peach perfect

Yes people SHOULD be able to search by body size

Yes people should just say nothing if they are out with the criteria on a forum post

But they don't.

I tried to say on one of the other posts. Someone always makes a sarky bitchy comment.

Ignore them all. And don't let it get to you.

People lie.

When you've stuck around a bit you see it clearer. Same old faces, putting the same group down. They really are just best ignored

People disagree..some more forcibly than others we all have to take it on the chin. Nothing should be taken to heart and it should be lively discussion nothing more. There's no room for making it personal and no one should be made to feel upset.

You made a suggestion and hopefully admin will look at both sides and either take it on board or not.

Not sure why you're so upset - you've been around long enough to know what the forums are like! Perhaps because the tables have turned and you're being pulled up on your comments instead of everyone jumping on your bandwagon and agreeing?

I wouldn't say you've been lambasted...it's been pointed out that you always jump on size threads; that in recent days it has been your posts (however innocuous you may believe them to have been) that have soured threads and caused offence by generalising or being sweetly snide; you have a fixation with there not being enough forum praise on fab for slim/athletic women; you appear desperate for men to be able to search for a certain body type and be able to bulk block others, regardless of looks, personality etc; you are lying about your age (you were a few years older than me when you joined and I'm 46 next month! )

So all in all nothing more than a few home truths that I'm sure quite a lot of forum users have noticed.

Quite frankly I'm not sure why you keep banging on about it - but then again I never feel the need to use the advanced search option. You're vocal enough in the forums, post enough pics, and go to enough events that I'm sure most men on fab know who you are - aren't your 450 alleged unread messages enough praise and attention?

If you have such a bee in your bonnet about search criteria, campaign for a complete overhaul, not just a slim to BBW option - after all why shouldn't us ladies be able to block short, fat guys with micro penises instead of just carrying on politely declining or ignoring messages that don't fit our desires?

My profile did say 'curvy' - meaning hourglass not fat - but I'm following Ruby Woo's example and changing to 'fabulous', because that's what I am!

not far from iceland,,,,,, tescos is nearer though :-) (near leeds)

Given that folks (on any internet site) are very selective with the truth in many areas of their profiles.. I'm not sure how much use it's going to be. ..

If we're requesting filters can I have one for the profiles that want to meet me... It's a very small %
