The site was very slow to respond for many users between (at least) 20:00 and 23:30 last night. This is peak time and we understand your frustration! These issues affected both the main site and the new chat room.
We have added a FULL DAY to all site supporter passes to apologise and make good. As always when there are issues with the site, we'll take the hit (and then some).
In the meantime we are working behind the scenes to work out exactly where the issues are being caused and to resolve these, in partnership with our hosting people.
The first few days in January are always the busiest for the site (and this year things have been crazy with over 300,000 private messages being sent each day) but we should be able to cope with the traffic and we're embarrassed that we've had problems!
Depending on the source of the problems we may have to turn off some minor aspects of site functionality. Because of that we'll be closing this thread to ensure it consists of messages from Admin only.

Quick update. Our current understanding is that this may have been a combination of issues at our web host and capacity issues with our severs. Unfortunately the server capacity issue isn't simply solved with something as easy as buying newer, bigger kit (although we also plan to upgrade many of our servers shortly).
While we continue to work on these issues we are making some temporary changes on the site to reduce site load.
We'll be posting these on this thread too.
1. We've removed the "latest thread" and date/time posted from the forum list. Once we are confident the servers are OK performance wise, we'll be adding this information back. |

2: We've removed the "contact history" on the profile page which site supporters see (winks, mail history, friendship status etc.). We appreciate this feature is pretty imporant to some of you and part of the site supporter package and we aim to have it back within 24-72hrs.

Update on this: We now understand that the recent performance issues are primarily due to our firewall being overloaded and losing track of connections rather then our web/database servers being overloaded (although they are still at high capacity!)
We've added back contact history to all profiles for site supporters. We'll keep this thread updated.
