Back of Beyond

Mark Why not prune all the topic throughout the forums? If you run it like those I have been involved with in the past, all topics are just left on the server taking up room.

Why not delete those that are older than 12 months? Nobody is going to miss them or very rarely refer back to them. Then for the most part, topics crop up so regularly, things like biggest cock etc, they might as well be stickied at the top to discourage new topics every week or two!

I'm guessing its the high activity and having to calculate what is the latest post etc etc partly causing the issue?

I personally wouldn't miss that feature going if it meant less stress on the server (and you! )

It's always hard to make a site fast under heavy load, since then it means most of the rest of the time you have large (and expensive) amounts of kit/resources sat idle. - I know when I implemented a distributed processing system, maybe 1k of message traffic per min normally, but peaks of 500k which was scary!

"Yay, well done and thanks! "

Too early for Yays we've still not fixed the problem yet but at least we know where it is and it is being looked at as we speak

I appreciate what admin are doing but just wondering if its your hosting company problems as Im also a member of another site in the Uk called dogging (you will have to work rest admin as I know it will get blanked otherwise) and when your webpages played up so they did on the other site as well.

Bot too bothered about the other site as when my premium finishes on there will be leaving but thought id alert you to the co-incidence in case it helps

Thats whats so wonderful about this site, the admins really care and look after us when there are problems with extra time. Thats more than i can say for the other site Im leaving when premium runs out. Thank goodness for genuine admin people.
