I think a button which sends out a "no thanks. Happy swinging" message would make people feel better about the messeges they send. Or maybe a "not right now, another time?" button. It would make abuse less likely. What you think?

There is already a "No Thanks" button, when you read your messages, you will see a button marked "DELETE" this is the button to use if you are not interested. If you send a message and it gets deleted, you can assume that is a "No Thanks" |

I know getting 100+ messages can be quite tedious to say "no thanks" to but it's just polite.
But if you don't mind having your messages deleted without reply then I guess it's fine. |

From the site FAQ
There are too many rude people on here who don't reply to my messages!
It's not rude not to reply.
Some ladies and couples get hundreds of messages a day so it simply isn't possible for them to reply to everyone. If you don't get a response, you can safely assume they aren't interested. If you're getting a lot of "no-replies" then you should consider your profile and the messages you send. Are they giving the right message? Are you standing out from the thousands of other guys on here?

I appreciate that the FAQ states it's not rude to have a message deleted without being responded to, but judging by the number of threads that are created about this, I think it's fair to say that many people are interpreting it differently.
If it takes the same amount of effort to automagically reply saying "No thanks, have a nice day" as it does to delete the message, then that puts paid to the theory that people don't reply saying "No thanks, have a nice day" because it's too much effort... especially if it also deletes the received message at the same time. |

And then the threads will start saying "why do people only send me an automated thanks but no thanks message"
No matter what other people do with the mails they receive there will always be others who don't like it and like to have a moan about it! |

We have a "no thanks" button on another of our sites and we don't think this one is a less of a site for not having it. It really is very marginal because the complaint then becomes why don't people give a personal reply/why don't they use the no-reply button

How about delete/Delete All that also sends an optional no thanks message?
That way you know if they have deleted it on purpose with no response or just done an empty my bloody inbox moment! |

Think some filters to out people you don’t want contacting you would be more use than a no thanks button, it might even encourage people to reply when it’s only people who fit there criteria that’s messaging. |

Here occasionally, but mostly somewhere else |
What if....
There was a "no thanks" button, but the actual wording could be user defined?
So, for example user A might specify the button to say "I appreciate your message but don't feel any compatability", while user B might say "no chance, you ugly munter"
Max 60 characters, and you can be reported for offensive content.

Then all we'd see on form threads is moaning groaning whinging this:
"Why do people just use the auto responder, can they not take the time to type 'thanks but no thanks'"
Best way to look at it is this:
Id you don't get a reply, they ain't interested - take that as a 'thanks but no thanks' and you won't go far wrong |

That's my point - they wouldn't know for sure that it was the auto response...
..unless they've messaged the same person twice, in which case they shouldn't be complaining! |

As has already been suggested if a slightly more sophisticated filter was available to block unwanted messages in the first place then fewer messages would be sent by people who did not meet the recipients criteria. Would it not be possible to use the current beta the search facility as the basis? If someone does not fit your search criteria (and preferences) then they cannot send you mail or wink at you! Fewer inappropriate messages could be sent out and those currently (un)lucky enough to be inundated with mail might then have the time to reply with a polite "no thanks" to the messages that got through. |

We do plan to improve the filters along these lines in 2011.
In the meantime just a reminder to all the current message filters are at
