With internet security in the news this week we wanted to say a little and answer some questions we've been asked.

From day one, security has been our number one priority. We've been running sites similar to this from 2006 and Fab from 2008, and we believe our security and safety are industry leading. We are audited daily on our security measures (which includes adversarial penetration testing).

We follow gold-standard best practices throughout our software, our development, our processes, our hosting and our information security.

Some common questions we've been asked:

1. Has Fab ever been hacked?

No.

2. When I upgrade by text, is my number stored by Fab?

We don't receive or store your mobile number on our servers. We can only check upgrades if you supply us the number yourself.

3. Does Fab store my card when I upgrade on card?

No. We don't receive or store your card number or upgrade details on our servers. Our card processor are all audited by Visa and Mastercard for compliance with their banking level security.

4. Does anyone have access to my password?

No. Your passwords are stored encrypted. If you want to reset your password we email you a secure one time link to reset it.

5. If I delete my account is my information removed from your servers?

Yes. The majority of information is removed the instant you confirm account delete. It is not recoverable from this point. The rest is removed within two hours by automated software processes. We do this because it's a requirement under UK data protection law and because we need the space back on our servers!

6. Who has access to my verification photo or private photos?

Only Admin has access to verification and private photos. If you ever want your verification photo removed just use Contact link at bottom of any page and we'll remove it (you'll also lose your photo verification flag)

7. Can I photo-verify anonymously?

Yes. There's no need to show your face. Just follow the instructions on the photo-verify page.

8. Can I use the site over SSL (https).

Yes. The site has been re-engineered over the past few months and you can choose to use https. We'll be making a change very shortly so only https is used for all site access.

9. Any advice?

Yes. Only use sites that have been around and trusted a long time. Fab has been running 24/7 since 2006. Only use sites accessible on https. Never use the same password between sites. Be careful of "commercial" sites; the often have the laxest security and most of the recent data breaches look like they are from disgruntled (ex-)employees rather than external hackers. Never share information online if you're worried it can be mis-used so don't add photos or add personal information that you'd be upset if they were mis-used by someone.
