Blocking people on forum posts

As we can block people's profiles, can we not block them from reading our forum posts and threads as well? If I block someone I want absolutely NO contact with them, including on the forums.

I think it would spoil the forums personally. We have quite a long blocked list some of who are on there for no other reason than we want to make sure they don't message us again or they have requested it for that reason. It would make the forums very difficult to read in my opinion.

There are some people I never want to interact with again and I simply ignore them

I don't care either way what anyone thinks and I have a sneaky laugh at a couple of the members I don't block them as it draws attention to me

Plenty of people in the forums are blocked and a few have blocked me

Life's short get over it and move on

If however the comment on a thread, removing it could cause it to be disjointed so unless they're using the forums to get at you, you'll just have to ignore them

it would make whole threads disjointed....

would you also block those posts of people who quoted those people who you have blocked....

you may think they are arses or bad people... you may not like them... but they may actually say valid things from time to time....

Here occasionally, but mostly somewhere else

I block people I don't want to meet, but I'll chat to anyone in the forums.

I don't understand people saying would make things disjointed.

Blocking works in chat, while making chat disjointed. So what's the difference?

I don't use chat do haven't experienced that but if I couldn't see certain replies in the forum I think it would make a thread disjointed. Say you had me blocked and I replied to a thread then someone you hadn't blocked quoted me in their own reply, it wouldn't make any sense at all.

There's also the case where someone asks for information. Now imagine if someone they had blocked answers the question, others see the question has been answered correctly so don't bother answering.

Not going to help is it?

Chat is different, on the forums, say someone comments, then the blocked person comments, then someone else comments on their comment answering or commenting on what they have said, the comment made would then not make sense if the comment from the blocked person was removed, hence disjointed

And what would happen if you blocked someone during a thread? So that they could no longer contribute to that thread? Would that be fair? Just because of maybe a comment that you disliked? Do you want to deny people full use of the site and all the things that you enjoy, just because for whatever reason you don't like them? Do you really think that everybody should be able to police the forums?

I am currently avoiding 'bumping into' someone and use the forum of a way of keeping tracts to which club/party he is attending. If I couldn't see his posts I wouldn't know where he was going and be able to avoid confrontation.

I block people who I not only don't want to meet but who have also crossed a line (in my opinion) somewhere on the site.

But just because I think that about a private message or one opinion or attitude on the site it doesn't mean that they don't have valid contributions to forum debates.

Some of the people who have the most different opinions to me are the ones who make me laugh most on the forums or pose the most thought provoking dilemmas or questions. To have those just not show would take a lot away from my pleasure in the forums.

Well they're not allowed to use the forums to bypass your filters so if they are constantly trying to contact you, report them.

Otherwise I don't see the problem, it's a public forum you either comment or you can choose to ignore the person/s you don't like.

No I don't think blocking posts on the forum is a good idea. The forum is a public online discussion for everyone to use. It would make threads disjointed and would be extremely boring.

Its only words on a computer, why people get so unnerved about others on here I'll never know.

A simple task would be skimming past the culprits words and carrying on reading after it. I'm
