From Admin on part 1.

We're testing a new feature.

It shows a green dot, if the user is currently online, in places where the online status of the user isn't obvious. At the moment that is mailbox, newsfeed, photos pages and looked@me.

Feedback is welcome.

If your profile is hidden (via the privacy page), the green "online now" dot will not show against your username.

No but it will increase the crap messages due to seeing the green dot, ie 'Hi, I see your online' without even going into my profile never mind reading the bloody content of it, do you understand now?

I just ignore messages until I'm ready to read them anyway

I can see why people think it will be useful but I don't know if I'll get anything from it at the moment

We think it's a good idea and I noticed it only this evening. Option to opt out....unless profile is hidden wouldn't people know you were on line anyway with or without the dot?

Just say on your profile that you aren't always online when it shows you are because the green dot is beta and not working properly yet.

I just ignore messages half the time anyway.

What a stupid idea! Please at least have the nous to make it possible for us to turn it on and off like most other site features.

I have already got filters set so that most people can't message me but the introduction of this bloody green dot means that it looks like I'm going to have to block everyone now. Thanks a lot!

So you haven't actually experienced increased messages because of it...you're only anticipating it? I think it would be useful if those of you that do experience it could keep actual figures to then present to admin so they can see there is a real need to be able to turn off the feature. They won't be able to argue with that.

This is going to be the same as when they introduced the postcode feature, where you couldn't opt out of either. I'm ok because I live in a city, but a friend of mine who lived in a small village had to then lie about where she was, so it wouldn't be like a red beacon!

Can't see it making much difference either way for me. Would probably opt out if the option was there, but I'll still just delete messages I'm not interested in, it's not going to spoil my day

As I said in yesterday's post, hate this feature, yesterday I got 42 I saw you online messages. Today so far another 27, it's a joke, allow us the option to turn the damn dot off

They could only see if they clicked on your profile, now they can see from news feed without looking at your profile, the whole thing is ridiculous and unnecessary in my opinion, but hey, anyone giving negative comments about the feature just gets slated or ignored anyway

I get very few messages, purely because I have most people filtered out. I would say that because of my filters I get a message once a month on average and I'm happy with that, rather have contact through our couples profile.

Since the green dot I have had half a dozen messages which said they saw I was online.....that's one he'll of an increase and one that I don't particularly want!

Guys don't read profiles wether they think you're online or not. I don't understand the pressure to read and reply to a message just because you can be seen as online. How about before you open the message you just delete and block it if it starts "Hey i see you are online".

Dont see the point in it,because if your sending someone a message you have to click on their profile,and it says if their online or not anyway.Also just because your online dont mean you are reading messages (it also says if you have read/deleted a message anyway) you maybe in a chatroom or just perving over pictures

We personally like it.Makes it easy when looking for a meet to know some ones on, rather than sending messages and getting reply days later.

Having read posts on this debate, each to their own.

If it can be done then i pressume admin will enable a switch on or off button and in doing so they make every one happy.

If not admin we're loving the site well done with your hard work.

Lived without it living with it.

Seems like a pointless addition to the site.

Why would I need to know if someone is online or not?

If I send a message I don't expect an instant answer, if I did I would use chat. The majority of the time I don't want to answer messages, I leave them until I am in the mood to chat, I mainly read the forums anyway.

Now the ability to appear OFFLINE, that would be a very useful feature

I really don't think that many people are that bothered. A few whiny people on the forum maybe. ..but then many on the forum aren't actually looking to meet people anyway so it really doesn't make that much difference.

WOI what is this alien speak???...a sight to encourage meets, rather than people complaining, about green dots?

Under the section - ONLINE, is where the green dot has always kinda been, so I'm not sure why lots are so affronted. But, I'm guessing admin can check and clarify, where others are receiving 20+ extra mails.

Maybe the introduction of some pampas grass, to keep it all balanced.

I think it works both ways. Ive been using the feature to prioritise who I message back first (out of those Im planning on doing).

I would like to have the option to not have the green dot. I have had several messages this morning assuming that u want to meet just because I appear as being online. Which is fine sometimes but would be nice to switch it off too

I like it, it means going through my inbox I can see who's on line

You show when you're online if you're on someones hotlist or they do a search while you are on line,

The chancer emails tend to come from those using the search function I find, so the dot doesn't really make that much difference In tterms of unwanted messages

I do have to laugh on here sometimes at the knickers that get twisted over things lol

I don't want to hide my profile. If I am doing that, I'd be as well to leave the site - and thats one less single female on here, which affects the balance on the site too - granted only one, but still. I want to me able to search for meets and message people, I just want to have control over my on site visibility for being on or offline. An opt out - same as we can opt out of showing in the who looked would be fine.

And somehow or another I really don't think the feedback will be taken on board at all, especially with suggesting the 'if you don't like, then just hide your profile' seems to be what your site is trying to not promote does it not? As it will be mainly single females hiding and then the men will just be moaning more as less females to choose from, or is my business acumen shot, as if I have to hide, I will have no need to upload pics and therefore stop site supporter as I will no longer need the site supporter in order to upload additional pics as a hidden profile wont have the need for them in the first place.

But the helpful advise of hiding will be taken onboard until my site supporter pass runs out or the site owners acknowledge their error or not as the case may be and whilst we may be in the minority, until I can control the green dot I will hide and therefore miss out but hey ho we all know how stubborn women can be and if we have to leave then so be it x

Are you looking for an opt out for all "online now" or just for the green dot?

If there was a new privacy option just like "hide profile" that worked the same as it does, but was called "don't show in online lists or search" and didn't hide your profile text is that what you're looking for here?

"If there was a new privacy option just like "hide profile" that worked the same as it does, but was called "don't show in online lists or search" and didn't hide your profile text is that what you're looking for here?

What I'd rather have was an option that I could tick which shows me offline when I am online, but your suggestion would be a compromise I can live with.

and the reason for this is so you don't get mails from people who see you online? But you'd still like your profile text to be visible? Is that correct?

"To those who don't want the dot to show because they don't want messages (or for any other reason), you can do this via your privacy page, "hide profile" and the green dot won't show

We're continuing to monitor this and all feedback good and bad is appreciated

Hi all, Am i missing something here , if i am searching for people on-line then i look at the who.s on-line? as to the green dot its just a tool to help highlight people who are on line. receiving to many message's from single men, most are the short "can i fuk you" easy to spot and delete ...connie xx

PS can we have a tick box in search for verified by meeting..please

Preferably to show offline though as people on your friends list or if you are on their hotlist still show you as online even if your profile is hidden x

Yes. I know people think its weird but showing online means I get messages. Hiding my profile means I get messages from people asking why I've hidden my profile. Even if its temporary, it would be great to log in, check messages and updates, then log out without 25 messages being there when I next log in!

Hiding profiles may seem a simple fix but you also have to remember to filter messages, hide all pics, and several other things. then you have to remember to reverse all of that when you want to show. One tick box I can tick to say 'show offline', even only temporarily, would be great.

nope there's one for "That have been verified genuine" which means cam or meet. I would like to only search for verified by meeting.

Are you sure you're getting the messages because you're online? Would a "stop messages" work better?

I still want my profile text and pictures to show, so I can still search and look to meet, but I want to be able to opt out of showing as online so I can control my site visibility that way.

I don't want to hide my profile as then I would not be able to meet, but a way to switch off the green button would be very helpful.
