Why does the site block users from sending URLs to each other?
Is it purely to prevent spamming or something more sinester?
Surely, if we want to privately tell another user about a site, that is down to us, and not up to the site to censor?

Most web addresses aren't blocked. Some specific addresses with a history of being sent as spam are blocked and any in unsolicited mails are also blocked.
These are just a part of our anti-spam measures.
