DISTANCE BY POSTCODE

I live fairly close to the borders of 3 counties.

Surely if there was a way to search people by distance it would return much more accurate results and possibily cover more than one area at a time. ??

Here occasionally, but mostly somewhere else

...As long as it was only based on the first half...otherwise I could change MY postcode a couple of times and potentially figure out your location....

Oh c'mon....

So someone finds the district I live in and then they knock on approx 10,000 doors

The way to do it would be for each member to enter their postcode. No one else would be able to see it. So no one would every know where you lived. The search results would come back telling us how far far away people are in miles. We would be able to search a 1 or 2 or 5 or 10 mile radius of where we live.. ( which in my case covers 3 regions )

We're looking at how best to incorporate this in a future update to profiles + search

We will probably ask for the first half of your postcode (e.g. N20) and show results based on proximity.

We have the technology that we use on our other sites we just need to stitch it into Fab.

Excellent idea, you mean like they have on used vehicle sites, where they tell you how far the car is from your post code.

That would be a great help, would it work when you randomly clicked on a profile or only when you used the Browser?

That would be fantastic! I have wanted to have this function for years. Saves me having to look it up each time and could be used in search results too.

Also when many people say things like "… no further away than an hour away …', for instance, you'll know straight away rather than having to go on multimap to work it out each time.

Brilliant! The sooner it could be implemented the better.

Fortress of Solitude, Middlesex

I tend to ask for the closest train station and work it out from there

Of limited use. Most "distance from" figures are as the crow flies.

For a more accurate distance you would need to use a route finder whch measures the actual mileage covered. There can be a fair difference in distances.
