Would anyone use it if we added another option to the message filters page
http://www.fabswingers.com/my/filters
That blocked people outside the age range you're looking for
?

Maybe not,as we've found age limits to be somewhat flexible.
We've had ppl contact us who have a 40 age limit on their profile. When we point this out to them they say "Yes we know but you look younger" (bless 'em).
So its best left up to ppl's descretion.

yeh but if they were unable to initially view your profile they wouldnt know how young you looked.
I think age filters is a good idea as saves folk from outwith mailing to just get deleted.
we all have our preferences and age is definately one of them

I absolutely would, I have to spend a lot of time every day sorting through messages from people who are over my age limit. It would be much better if I could just block them from messaging me in the first place. |

We wouldn't use it. Assuming your age limit was 40, but someone 41 could be spot on - apart from 1 year age difference - using the block, that person would get missed and could be a very good potential playmate.
The only way it would be of any use if to people who are 101% rigid about age and to us that makes the whole thing a little sterile - BUT, if it's an option then those who want it will use it, those who don't won't - Simples ! |

We like the option to delete text though - how cool is that ? Does it also delete quotes - assuming someone has quoted you of course ?
15 minutes - maybe a little too long ??

Ok, maybe I used a bad analogy. The point I was trying to make is that someone who may be just a tiny smidge older than your limit - ie a month or even a couple of weeks, could be missed if a filter was used ... |

the problem would be if a couple are not the same age as each other -
we sometimes find that if we use the age filter in browse that we miss couples we would potentially meet because they have an age gap between them - they do not show up in our search. |

I for one would appreciate an age block button, I get tired of mail from people under my age limit. If they are really mature enough when chatting in the chat rooms then fair enough, never say never! but I'd like to be able to exercise that choice. xxx |

I've never understood how anyoone can 'get tired' of any form of mail FFS if it's not what you're looking for delete it !! It's not as though you have to pay a fee for every bloody mail you open.

Okay let me rephrase that, I get tired explaining to people who clearly haven't read my profile why I delete their mail, and don't wish to meet with them.

well we'd imaging if someone didn't want to play with anyone under 25 for example that it wouldn't matter if they were a couple or not, and if it did make a difference then why would they have an age limit in the first place. |

what puzzles you? the concept of receiving mail? the manners taken to reply, even though unsolicited?
or just plain english as it is written?
And I would appreciate you not using swearwords at me, that I find aggressive and personal. |

There is no big deal I merely answered the OP with a request for an age block button, you were the one who chose to doubt my need for it... now run along and leave me alone ...with a degree in english language I'm more than capable of understanding. However my degree in psychology and social anthropology helps me understand you even more. |

No we wouldn't use it. We have a prefered age range, but would not say "no" just because someone falls outside it. We've met quite a few guys and couples who were either younger or older, with who we have had some great times. And as for reading a few messages, well thats the cost of reading that one which results in good times. |

It would be a great addition...though some are looks younger than their age...but many have different reasons for age limit...
I would suggest it has a minimum and maximum age limit as some here also doesn't want to meet someone as young or younger than their kids.
Anyway, I am looking forward to it's availability...as those who want to use it can use it and those who doesn't want to miss out on possible meet don't have to. :D
Surely we all love options...and here there are so many to choose from... and we're loving it...:D |

yeah it should not be automatic...but it could also be direct effect from filling up the looking for forms...like how your browsing page is automatically set to your "looking for" profile...maybe the block can work that way too...only people you are looking for can message you...:D |

AND.... Do you answer all the junk mail that comes through the door?? Do you answer all the spam you get in your inbox? I think not, but that is also unsolicited mail! If you have clearly stated in you profile what you are looking for, no reply is necessary if they plainly don't meet your wants, needs and desires!
I can see some of the less"busy" guys mailing you now, just so they can get a mail in reply!!! lol
As for the age button? We wouldn't use it, because although we have definate ideas on what age range we want, we have also met some great people outside that range! What a waste that would have been, not to have met them..... |

Its a sad indictment of this place these days that those of us with more than one pair of matching chromosomes are expected to "dumb down" for those people that frankly have the cerebral capacity of an ameoba and have to resort to personal jibes in order to make a point - when the only point that should be discussed is the very genuine one that was the reason for the topic in the first place - Note to the amoebas - google the word "democracy" it means we can ALL have an opinion and should be able to express them without being subjected to banal jibes of the moronic |

this is all very true, but unfortunately democracy also means the cerebally challenged have a right to make banal jibes ! |

an age filter or any other filter is a personal choice.
Allow that function and then its a personal choice if you activate it or not.
As to the slight deviation from the post....
I can very well see how it is tiresome to have to read and or read/delete mail that has been sent from someone who very clearly falls outwith your personal perferences.
We all react differently to different things and as a consequence some people cannot be rude or dismissive or even ignore mail as for them its just not 'right' or 'polite' to do so.
Equally there are those who take the stance that..'they didnt read the profile..so too bad..delete!'
neither one of those is right or wrong its a personal choice....that being said...
what is wrong is to belittle or be derisory to someone as a consequence of actions that in essence are done with good intention.
Before anyone leaps in..i have an arse...not up my own..as frankly being a fat bird prohibits me from bending that way (thank feck), i do have an opinion..I am not afraid to use it. I have a degree..studying for another..i still cant spell for toffee..and i worry not a jot lol
..yep think that covers it!

If people are blocked from contacting someone through filters, are they notified before they click 'send' on a message?
There are some people on the site who do take time to actually formulate a decent message (although outwith the persons desires) they may be messaging for another reason.
I'd hate to get to this point in contacting them to find out we are blocked from doing so.

Errr.. instant divorce courtesy of FabSwingers? Pmsl!!!
Ok, in all seriousness, I have a friend who, whilst being older than myself has a daughter a year older than myself and she used to have a rule not to meet anyone so young. If the age block was activated, we'd have never met |

surely anyone with any brains would block the same as their range, eg i look for 22-38 or is it 36 lol, so i would put that on the age block.....so if someone was to send me a meassage for it to say blocked, then they obviously aint read my profile . |

I think that would be a fantastic idea as i am fed up of trawling through mail only to find its from 20 year olds. Or the first line starts, 'i know im out your age bracket'
I have an age limit for a reason and i feel really rude not being able to reply to all sayng sorry, and i shouldnt have to explain myself to those not in my criteria.
Fab idea - bring it on |

may i point out the part where i said 'they may be messaging for another reason'
we have a lot of friends on the site (outwith our age limits) who we occansionally message, and i realise that if you have messaged someone before or are friends then the filters do not apply.
however... what if someone was trying to cantact you about a social or something that you had written in the forums and couldn't!
therfor not reading your profile doesn't matter!?

so then maybe it would be the same as single men blocked, if u mail them then they can still mail u... i do see yr point i have a few i chat to out of my age range, but like all the filters on here, no one has to use them , but there in place for those that want to use them. |

Oh I realy don't think it's a good idea posting this, but what the f**k!
How about making the age limit button work both ways. Only those in your set age range can see/contact you, but you cannot see/contact those outside your limits either! |

if outside of range...it wouldn't allow you to even send a message...so don't worry about wasting your time...it's like when the profile says "no single guys"...:D

yeah that could work....but some prefer not to be found...but to find...:D....just like how most couples put the "no single guys"....it doesn't work both ways....unless you block them...:D....mind you most people don't mind their profile being seen by people outside their range...just don't wanna to be filled with messages starting with "we/I know we/I are/am outside your age range/preference"....:D
