Lots of threads on about fake pics....I've seen a fair few myself.
I know that admin can't possibly check them all at the time of upload and rely on ordinary members to report.
Surely a link, to tineye or to google image search, available when viewing a pic, would enable people to do this much more easily.
Could it be done? |

Possibly, but would probably need permission to use a link for tineye. Not sure about needing permission.
However if we keep making people aware then they shall learn to use it. We havnt had our pictures stolen yet........ Yet lol |

Depending on which browser you use it's already there - just right click on an image on google chrome for example.
Tineye can be added to a browser toolbar to do the same.
It might be a good idea on the FAQ page and the warnings that appear when uploading pics that a clear message is displayed (maybe alongside the one warning that uploading fake internet pics will get you banned!) saying that pic mods have access to such tools to verify a pictures genuinity!!
Of course people do upload their pics elsewhere themselves - but this may at least deter some of the numpties using teen cheerleader/hot gay stud/80's gangbang porn shots.

For Fab to check the pics as they're submitted they'd have to use the Commercial TinEye services. Using the API costs $1500 per 30,000 lookups. There's been about 200 publicly viewable pics submitted in the last hour. So, ignoring private pics and, presuming that's an average, Fab would have to find an extra $78,000 (£48,759) a year!!!!!
I can't find the pricing, but I'm sure that Google Reverse Image Searching won't be free for Commercial use either! |
