As the site has grown massively since I joined, I think its high time that the relatively simplistic messaging filters were updated.
Some new members, particularly single ladies, but couples too, are getting bombarded to such an extreme level now, most of which are completely inappropriate, that all it achieves is to give them a bad experience of the site before they even get a chance to experience a social, club meet, party or meet.
So based on the most common complaints I've heard relating to inappropriate messages, here's some proposed new message filters:
1. All photos are categorized when they are uploaded - why not add a filter that stops an email from being sent unless it has a face pic attached or if it has an unwanted cock pic (or both).
2. Verification filters - members can choose to receive messages only from members that have had at least some kind of verification.
3. Age filters - many members complain about receiving messages from members way outside their preferred age-range
4. Geographical filters - many members receive messages from people so far away that meeting them is unlikely ever to be feasible and it just adds to the number of messages they aren't going to reply to - so why not allow members to select which postcodes or regions they will accept messages from.
I honestly thing that adding these filters would make a major difference to the experience people have on Fab, particularly new members. |

1. I don't think anyone should be forced to send a face pic from the start, although nice to receive them straight away to help decide if interested from the off, still think we should have the choice.
2. That is possible already, just go to message filters.
3. That's not a bad idea, although we have been interested in people outside of our preferred age range.
4. Although it may seem unlikely they will meet, some people do travel some distances, through work and for little breaks away for two examples.

Users can already opt not to receive messages from unverified users:

99.9% of users don't use a filter. We probably need to figure out how to make them more obvious to people before adding new ones.
Although an age filter would be the next one we'd add. We're also not sure if a simple ("only let us receive mail from our account preferences" -- e.g. age/sex) would be simpler.

1. well a lot of people insist on a face pic on first contact and/or insist on no cock pics (and occasionally insist one is included). So why not put the choice in the recipients hands rather than the senders?
Seeing as all pics are categorised when they are uploaded, adding a filter should be relatively simple.
2. didnt know that - thanks
3. well that's your choice - but why not give the people who have very specific age preferences the choice also? there's nothign to stop them from setting a margin for error just outside their preferences or sending a message to someone they like the look of who doesnt quite match.
4. On this one we are probably in the minority - I've travelled over 200 miles to meet the right people - and people have travelled similar distances to meet me - but again - all I'm suggesting is that we give recipients the opportunity to make the choice rather than force them to wade through potentially hundreds of messages that they arent going to be interested in. |

just one other thing - how about making ticking the:
"not looking for single males" box and the "Males" box in the looking for section incompatible with each other - just for a bit of consistency like |
