Picture theft!

Hi on this site anyone can right click on a picture and save it to their PC, they can then edit it or remove the words across the bottom, and then re use the picture, or print it out and use it to " out " someone, maybe on a work notice board or in emails.

On other sites this feature has been disabled, so peoples pics can not be downloaded .

I think that would save a lot of problems, but not sure how easy it would be to do.

With screen shots available on most phones now anyway it wouldn't make any difference, there's lots of ways to copy someone's pics without right click. There is a bit about it in the FAQs I think x

Here you go...

We believe in being straighforward with the members of Fab. Right click protect doesn't work and gives a false sense of security by pretending to "protect" images. Other sites may pretend they've protected your images but actually they're being dishonest by claiming that.

Right click "protect" can be gotten around in under 2 seconds by any of the following methods:

Simplest: Goto File menu, Save As, and save to desktop = The photos will be in a folder on your desktop that your browser has created.

OR... Disable JavaScript by going to Tools menu, choose Internet Options, Click the Security tab, click Custom Level, scroll to the "Scripting" section of the list and click Disable. Right click can now be used to save images.

OR... Press print screen and the image + page will be copied to clipboard where it can be pasted into a graphics program for resize or save.

We give you three privacy options on your photos and we now hide images from anyone who isn't a member of Fab. If you are worried about someone stealing your photos you may want to set them to be viewable only by your friends, or private in which case you can send by private mail.

We also now watermark all photos upon upload.

Where do you watermark?? If it's across the bottom of pic it can be cropped out. A transparent watermark through the picture diagonally would be more appropriate.

^This.

A fab watermark across the middle of the pic would be much better than across the bottom where it can easily be cropped out.

in photoshop etc, u can actually edit out things like lamposts etc, its not that hard to do with watermarks.

anything thats displayed on a screen can be recorded into pictures or video

simple fact, if u are that bothered, dont have any identifiable facepics(Ive seen some silly 'hide who we are' ones with just the eyes alone being censored..and I mean actual eyes, not a strip across the face lol)

Yep Im with keen.

Whilst the number of pic thefts seems to be very high right now; if you don't want it circulating the internet; don't put it on the internet.

There's also 'Digimark' where a digital watermark is included in the photo and you can search for it online to see where it is being used.

Watermarking the most likely to work. Especially if the watermark is placed randomly on the photos and not just at edges were it would be easy to crop out.

A few amateur sites do this, logos at 45 degrees across corners or small "seen at...." that could be anywhere in the photo. Sometimes that could mean in the wrong place, but if so just delete and upload and the auto script would place at random again in some different spot.

Can't stop people from saving photos but can make it so time consuming and difficult for then to recycle as their own.

What's admin think?

Our view as always: Don't add anything to this site or elsewhere on internet if you'd be upset if it was misused

We are not convinced changing watermarks would have an impact.

The simple solution is..dont show anything you wouldnt want getting into the public domain. ( the internet is in the public domain!)

When you post a pic of yourself sucking a strangers cock youre posting to billions of internet users - not just the people on fab.

Hid disguise your face, watch for identifying marks and backgrounds and hay presto -could be anyone with same hair colour whatever.

Oh and you can aways watermark it yourself if you really want to lay claim to an image.

Would rather "Fab's" watermarks were optional.

Personally we don't want them. Should you ever change the positioning etc, please make a Fab watermark an optional feature.
