New ethnicity search option

But does it work for both of a couple or just one like the "age" search?
Also,
Most profiles, wont have selected anything - so will take time for it to work through the users to change (if they decide to).
Nice modification though for those that have been requesting it. |

Damn! Someone missed a trick. Just for comedy value, couldn't they have included Dwarves, Elves, Hobbits and young busty single nymphomaniacs who own a brewery? All the last 4 may be debatable as real or not, but it would make me smile.  |

Not sure how it's set up to work, the searches we have done are obviously limited by the amount of people who have updated their profile.
We did a search for white and a search for black. Couples who are mixed show in both searches. Seems a bit redundant unless you a searching for singles?!? |

But what we need now is to be able to block messages from those not of the ethnicity we're looking for, like we can block messages from those who don't have photos, verifications or whatever. Personally this would save me such a lot of time explaining to disgruntled or unbelieving white /Asian / mixed guys that I really am only interested in black guys and I'm not racist! |

I don't tell anyone why I am not interested. Just that I am not. Saves any hassle. |

But do you never chat to non-black guys?
I've always felt filters serve their purpose for those just looking for meets - rather than using the more 'social' side of the site such as the forums.
I used to have mine set rigidly - but took them all down after finding the forums and enjoying banter with those I wouldn't want to meet for fun.
Each to their own - and yes, I've set my ethnicity via the new feature. But I guess most people could easily guess the ethnicity of someone via pics. I suppose it will help with searches - but I'd hate to think it resulted in people systematically blocking all those of a particular ethnicity. I suspect however it may!  |

Just heard about this and checked for the feature, I noticed 2 things however:
1) My ethnicity already automatically updated on my profile details.
2) how do I search for "people seeking xyz"  |

Hi Obi, yes I happily have conversations with normal, polite, respectful, intelligent guys, whatever race or colour. But sadly they seem to be the minority 
The problem with most of the non black guys who contact me, is either they think they can change my mind (which is about as impossible as a gay guy persuading them to stop being straight!) or they ask nosy or sleezy questions about my sex life, which I don't wish to answer.
Several times I have even been accused of being racist simply because I have a personal preference! It's not nice. |

I know some see this as a negative but I don't. On the contrary. Ethnicity and age are things you cannot change about yourself, so I feel should be filterable.
I am open to all races but feel it is pointless appearing in people's searches if I'm not the ethnicity they're looking for.
Hence this search option gets a "thumbs up" from me.
I do feel it should show on your profile though, otherwise it's only a useful tool for searches.  |

Thanks for including this Admin, is it possible to have something like Oriental/East Asian/Chinese rather than just Asian please? I hope you will agree that someone from India is rather different to someone from China.
People from Japan/China/Korea/Thailand/Vietnam are an entirely different race to those from India/Pakistan/Bangladesh. |

I think its perfectly reasonable. If a single girl (on a dating site) wanted to meet an asian man, she'd need some way to specify she was hoping he was more indian than chinese, or vice versa! Same would be useful in this instance. |

A well needed addition Admin, but will there ever be a way to search by what people are looking for rather than what they are? (Hint, you'll need a checkbox!)
Personally, it's all the same to me, but I'd rather only contact someone who is looking for who / what I am rather than waste everyone's time. |

good idea, but would it be possible to add 'other' as an option? I for one do not fit into any of those categories. I fear setting myself as 'prefer not to say' will limit my search-ability.

Although the site owners have added an update that everyone can see, Yohoho is right...it will take time for people to find this new improvement...and maybe not everyone will want to use it. They will of course be excluded from some searches but that is their choice! |

This needs tweaking so there is an option to show couples who are both white/black/etc as well as mixed couples as it does now. Also needed (as with the bi search), is an option to search by sex within couples. So that you can search for couples with a black male, couples with an Asian female etc. In relation to the bi search you could then search for couples with bi female and straight male and for straight female with bi male combinations instead of just couples where both are bi as you can now. |

Great..now we can search for all those hunky black guys we seek.
Only issue is that if you haven't read the forum to know this is not an option, then how many will update their profile?
Perhaps, all profiles could be set to, say not up dated, and then when they log in they get a message to ask them to update their profile with their ethnicity. If people don't want to put their ethnicity on their profile perhaps a prefer not to say option could be their too. |

Probably there aren't many black guys near you whereas there are in London. We populated the ethnicity if a user self-specified in their profile text.

When will the function be updated so that you can search for individuals... Eg. Couple with black female, couple with black male, couple where both are black etc. At the moment its a bit pants, also it's the same with the bi filter, it's a bit useless only being able to find both bi couples, when is the option coming for searching for couples with bi females or with bi males? |

When the improved location searching was being set up, Admin added a red banner at login (http://www.fabswingers.com/forum/feedback/61735), to remind people to enter their postcode, could the same not be done for ethnicity?
