I notice that when you block someone it stops you from seeing them in chatrooms... why can't this be applied to forums as well?

Wish it was applied to forums too, I've had people I've blocked having a go at me via forum posts in past, once blocked they should be totally blocked

Unlike chat which is temporary - forum posts live forever! If posts from those you've blocked or who have blocked you were invisible then it would often end in very disjointed threads!

If someone breaks the rules and has a dig or uses the forums to try and contact you - report them.

Otherwise just ignore them. It's easy. I do it all the time!!

I do report them, would rather see a disjointed thread, than a person I blocked tbh

"I do report them, would rather see a disjointed thread, than a person I blocked tbh"

But just because you blocked them doesn't mean anyone else has. Forums are open to all - posters, lurkers, occasional _iewers.

And just because I've blocked someone doesn't mean they don't have valid opinions or useful advice for others.

I've used many forums with an ignore option for users that annoy you or that you dont want to see posts from and it doesn't cause disjointed threads or issues. So I do not see why that option in here would be that difficult and it would stop a lot of frustrations for people.

And just because I've blocked someone doesn't mean they don't have valid opinions or useful advice for others.

What if someone you've blocked was quoted, or quoted someone else?

I've been in chat at the same time as people I've blocked and seeing a one sided conversation is odd!

I guess my point is that forum threads aren't always just individual posts. And not seeing who's quoting or been quoted might break up the flow.

Yes and the person I blocked would only be blocked from my _iew not everyone else's, same as in chat

If I see one sided conversation then know its someone I blocked and don't really care what they are discussing to be honest, there's no valid reason why a person I blocked _iew can't be blocked from forums as well

It will depend on the software the site has. A more complex software will mean an increase in subscriptions, or all subscribe. Remember you don't have to pay to be here but the site does cost money to run and update.

Well if its a server issue I get it. .. and I had not thought about the quoting issue.. I know I can easily ignore... but since they gave me the lovely ignore option in chat I would like the same here in forums... just a suggestion.

I see more site supporters than non site supporters, I'm sure they get enough revenue to buy the appropriate software

If you can ignore the quotes, isn't it easy enough to ignore the posts?

And surely its easier to do that because the name of the poster is there, so you can know which posts youre ignoring....otherwise wouldnt you have to read the post to know its a one-sided conversation that you have no interest in?

chatrooms are VERY different from a forum...dunno how that is apparent at all

unless someone is using the open forums to try contacting then yes, report it.

but to block people who arent able to contact u via the forum?...ridiculous.Grow a thicker skin.

advice I'd give to any sex

Blimey, If I didn't see all the posts from people that annoy me in the forums, so many of the threads I'd be reading would be half empty and would make no sense at all!

ti block is a matter of choice.. if you want to continue reading the posts you simply dont block.. same as in chat or via messages... I still think it would be a great option and this thread has only served to make me want it more.

I agree a block is a block and should run across whole site not just sections of the site. Someone can always unblock if they change their minds

"I notice that when you block someone it stops you from seeing them in chatrooms... why can't this be applied to forums as well? "

The forums would become even more introverted as groups would organise mass blocks of individuals leading to some people seeing very little in the forums. How would you feel if this was done to you? The reality is you can ignore people you don't like its not that hard to do.

stronger?...doubt it really, I for one am quite at a losss of understanding on what blocking someones comments that wont be directed towards urself will achieve. As I've previously mentioned the forums are a bit different from chat, it specifically mentions not using open posts for getting around blocks(in a direct manner)

perhaps its time to reflect on how strong ur feelings of being annoyed are actually based on some precursor bias...surely they cannot be annoying u that much by making comments that arent even aimed at u...does ur blood boil ffs?

on the technical side the consensus I believe makes the point in the forums making no sense if users were hidden from eachothers comments...imagine the shag the one above threads descending into chaos..........
