Would it be possible to add something to the search/brows options to see who lives close to you (possible set by post code).
The reason we ask is that we live in SK17 which is right on the edge of the 'North East', 'North West', 'West Midlands' and 'East Midlands' and it is relay hard to see who lives close to us.
Great sight though, loving it lots
Many thanks

Don't hold much hope out for this request!!
To do this you need information off the post office who charge loads for it.
The other option is to use the goecoding service from google but this is limited to 1000 calls per day, so no good either, as there will be more that those many searches per day on a site like this.
There are a couple of free script out there to to it also, but they vary in accuracy, problem is they use php/mysql and this site uses asp as its scripting language.
Same with us we live on the Cheshire/Staffs border so are covered by both the Northwest and Midland regions.
I personally don't like the search by postcode when I'm looking for a person in another area say Bristol, I have to look on google first to see what the first part of the postcode for that area, before I can search!!! |

"why not do it by distance
ie 25/50/100 miles this would help
im near newcastle and if i look for north east i get them from as far as shefield definatly not local to me "
How?
Don't see what you mean still basically the same idea, even if it give people within a radius or as the crow flys. |

I've been on other sites where this is possible and you just plot yourself on a map.
They used something like google map, it doesn't show your location in searches but does list contacts in order of distance.
I personally would love something like this on FAB
Fingers crossed!!! |

Just checked the google site for their google maps api which will mean you can do this. If you are a commerial site and have paying customers which this does, by means of site supporter, google now charge as you have to use their PREMIER service.
Like I also said its easy to do and implement, just costly and as this site is generally free, I wouldn't hold your breath..or gross your fingers..lol |
