The site is riddled with rules and restrictions that have been imposed for 'performance' reasons, yet obvious and easy to implement performance enhancements have been ignored.
Ex. 1. The main reason for clicking on a profile is to check ages and location. These must represent some 40% of all clicks. A simple tooltip popup when hovering over a profile image would eliminate these clicks and a repeated SQL call. This is also really important in the chat rooms where seeing where someone is located is vital.
Ex. 2
Putting New Winks and Friend Adds on the home page along with new messahes will likewise eliminate a click anll it's associated SQL.
Ex. 3
There are lots of things which can be done in the chat window to save trips back to the host or database Freezing the scroll window would be a good start so one can actually read a message before it scrolls off and becomes almost impossible to read: that generates a lot of extra traffic as one frantically tries to scroll back to find it, send messages asking for a resend or having to send lots of short messages where one long one would suffice. |
