"Ive noticed watching the cams in the new beta chatrooms seriously eats up my broadband limit (im on 10Gb per month). Doesnt seem to do this in the old chatroom - anyone know why this is?"
You need to change your broadband provider, loads of cheap providers with unlimited bandwidth. |

Yep agree with the above comment, We have an o2 mobile and with that you get unlimited broadband for 7 quid per month, Even if you don't have an 02 phone I think they only charge 12 quid, but I'm sure there will other similar offers in the marketplace. It's well worth having a look around.
10gig per month isn't a great deal if you're watching cams a lot, and as SJ_Mark have said, the better the cam resoloution, the more bandwidth is taken up, thus your allowance goes noplace.
If you compare the cam quality on the old chat to the new, there is a 10000% improvment in the quality of the cam pics |

We have to remember that many broadband deals (home and mobile) come with a minimum term so it may not be as simple as changing provider for a better deal.
Also, we dont all have the luxury of been able to choose, some people live in areas where there is very limited choice (depends on many factors but in particular if the prefered provider has equipment in your local BT Exchange).
Anyhoo.... maybe would be a good idea to have an option for less bandwidth for those users using mobile broadband. Judging by the number of people that I see in chat saying their dongle cut them off and then go on to moan about a particular network then id say there is quite a few chat users on mobile broadband. If they go over their limits then it will be VERY expensive for them!

I did have unlimited broadband, but Orange cut the speed due to the poor line/distance from exchange etc. So i told them i wasnt going to pay £20 a month for such rubbish speeds, so i went down to the basic package with a 10gb cap. Have a broadband monitor so can see how much im downloading, and the beta cams make it shoot up very quickly. I use a few other sites that have cams but it doesnt seem to eat up mb in those. |

Have you though of watching the cams in small or medium, does that make a bandwidth difference...
This is the whole idea of you being on a cap, cheaper and the ISP knows your not downloading loads of stuff, but if your online habits change, maybe you need to look at another ISP package... |

Yes i now only use the very smallest cam size. It's not as if im looking at cams for hours on end. I rarely look at a cam for more than 5 minutes because i can see how much MB its using up. I could change but apart from looking at the beta cams ive never been close to using up my 10GB limit before. If it does use up so much bandwidth then i will properly have to stick to using the the old chat rooms. |
