Question about bans

I use both the forums and chat rooms, and have a question please.
Why doesn't the site use the same bans that are issued in the forums in the chat rooms.
Forum bans start at a minimum 24 hour ban which I think is acceptable and acts as a deterrent from doing wrong again.
Chat rooms, however get an hour ban which I think is no deterrent at all.
Wouldnt it be fairer that the site treat all bans equally and have same ban structure for both chat and the forums?
Longer bans in chat would be more than likely to stop all the idiots that think they can direct all the time. |

If people get more than 1 hour ban they get hit with longer ones |

PS chat bans are anything between 1 hour to a ban altogether until Admin review |

Yes but forum bans are a minimum of one day, I just think bans should be same across the board, if its a minimum if a day on forums, should be minimum of a day on chat rooms too. Don't see what chat should be favoured with smaller bans that's all |

yes cos i know 24 hour ban from forum its orrid but i agree the site should have same rules for forum and chat room makes sense. Can you imagine my gawd if i was 24 hours without chat room I would be climbing the walls and my fone bill would be huge lolol |

It is because Admin want to give short sharp shocks.
A short sharp shock in chat is an hour. An hour banned from posting would probably be up before you even realised the ban had been given, so they decided on 24 minimum for that one.
All bans are dependant on what rule has been broken though, not everyone will get the minimum |

but minimum should be same for both forum and chat rooms, an hour ban in chatroom can be viewed same, log off, cook tea, log back on, hey presto back in chat room, longer bans or equal bans I personally think would be more of a deterrent, the 1 hour bans don't work from what I have witnessed |

I think the difference is if you get a ban in chat it is 9 times out of 10 when you are actually in chat. If you get a forum ban you may not even be on line, so could log back in and the ban is over already.
Either way, you are in the right place for your feedback of what you think would work better |

Another reason to favour longer bans in the Forums is that Forum posts are available for EVERYONE to read, FOREVER. Whereas in chat, once it's scrolled past, only Admin can re-read what was said.
A Forum post therefore has more potential to offend more people, over a longer period of time. This warrants a longer ban, in my opinion. |

When someone is banned, the post that cause the offence in the forum is also removed, so don't see why both cant have same ban lengths, be nice if admin responded to this though |

It's what Ruggers and Sunny say. We also review anyone with multiple chat bans and give them longer (e.g. week long+) bans.

But one hour bans don't deter the directing in regional chat rooms, maybe time to consider increasing length of first ban, or make site fair across board and have same length bans for both chat and forum, no logical reason why different length bans for the two, as, like states previously, offending forum post is often removed at time of ban.
Also, could I ask what action is taken against time wasters, that can be proved via messages in inboxes, other than admin blocking both profiles from seeing each other. Seems unfair time wasters can continue using site when they arrange meet, send message to say they are on way, never show up, they give site a bad name. |

I don't think , remember its just my opinion , that the site has a bad name. I , remember I , do think there are some people who don't use the site the best way they could or use their own gut feelings therefore they are easy pickings for alleged time wasters. |

I didn't say site has a bad name, I said its time wasters that can give sites bad names, and I'm picky in my selection thank you, just curious to know what action admin take as when I have reported one time waster, no action taken against him, what's point in reporting if nothing going to be done other than blocking which I had already done. And like I said had message in my inbox from the guy in question saying he was on his way, so how much more proof is needed that he's a time waster. |

Here is an explanation from Admin from another thread on how they deal with reports.
******Just a quick note. If people report others and we can verify that they have broken site rules, we always take action (either a first and final warning, partially suspended account, fully suspended, mixture of the above).
Every single report sent via the REPORT link is reviewed. Clearly it's not in our interests to have people on here who are bad for the site. Equally we need to verify what has been reported and be fair to those who have been reported.
Admin
PS. we never provide feedback on what has happened. It's just not practical given that we get 100s of reports a day.
Here is what the page says after a report has been submitted:

Your feedback has been saved.
A website admin will shortly review your feedback and take the necessary action. After reviewing the evidence available to us, we may disable an account, remove a user, disable certain aspects of that user's account or issue a warning.
By leaving feedback you help improve the site for everyone who uses it. Thank you.****** |
