BLOCKING full stop

Is there a way to block non wanted groups from seeing your profile, updates pictures etc.

For example we aren't interested in Single Guys, MM, TV/CD etc, how do we remove their ability to see anything to do with us?

I believe the closest you can get to that is blocking individual profiles. all of them!

would be a great feature to add to the site, would make it much more specific to users needs and stop unwanted approaches full stop, if they can't see you , they can't bug you

and we do understand the irony of a single guy posting to us on here, but forums and profiles are different things!

If you block the group from contacting you they can't "bug you" how can them just looking at you bug you?

because we believe that the site should cater to the user needs and wants, if we don't want our details/profile displayed to anyone but our target audience isn't that fair enough?

It might well be but still can't see why they "bug you" but that might just be me not caring if folk look at my profile especially if they were blocked (as a group) from mailing/ contacting me - not that I have any groups blocked!

ok 'bug us' might be wrong turn of phrase, basically we would rather have the ability to pick and choose who see's our profile rather than it be available site wide, blocking everyone on the site who doesn't fit might take a while :D

hmmmm so how would that affect on the forums, as any group can use that.

Would you expect your avatar to be blurred to certain groups?

Reply privately (thread closed by moderator)

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

good point on avatar, but that's a tiny pic ;0

We see the forums as a general chat interface, much like a pub for anyone to wander into and chat etc, some banter and interaction is a good thing.

However....for personal things such as profile and picture viewing we'd prefer the choice as to who see's it.

So a question ......what have you got against single males that you don't them to view your pics or profile?

Just block them after they look and then they can't contact you - simples

Any website will only attempt to cater for the wants and needs of the majority ... And we haven't seen much demand for what you expect .... If you wanted to you could mark all your pics as private which would prevent others viewing? It's open to you to limit the information you display

Nothing at all, but even on a sight such as this the option for selected privacy is always nice

I suppose you could put your pics to private and then only show the people who you don't mind seeing them

Reply privately (thread closed by moderator)

Use the filters to block who you don't want messaging yourself.

Keep your photos private to friends only so they can only see the photos you want to show.

Thanks for all your input, think our point is being missed though, our profile is for very specific groups, why should those outside of our target group even know we exist unless we choose to let them

Reply privately (thread closed by moderator)

By (user no longer on site)  over a year ago

Cause there isn't that option.

You could put your profile on hide. And just mail people you want.

Other than that I don't know how else you would manage it.

Completely agree, our block list would be so much smaller if we could just allow the groups that we are interested in to view our profile and updates etc.

If you are looking for specific groups then why don't you join a site for specific groups or create your own. Fab is great as it is and people and groups can be blocked. If they look at your profile so what? They aren't doing any harm. You could always make amendments to your profile so that you can't see who's been looking

Chill and enjoy

whats the big deal with us asking if we can have the site amended to how we would like it, the change would have zero effect on those not choosing to block groups, small minded attitudes of move on etc isn't exactly conducive to site growth

I think it's great idea, we have our message filters set so only people we are looking for can message us, but would prefer it if only people we could be interested in could see our profile

O p first and foremost this is a free site plenty others charge and whilst not perfect using filters is best way.

If bothered about folk viewing you how do you cope walking down street if someone looks at you.

Generally the site works well so its a case of listening to others input and adapting from there.

We pay and think its a great deal, but if we were the site owner we would implement far better filtering at every level, its just our opinion which we are entitled to, in the same way your entitled to express yours.

Filters make the site more accessible than less, do you really want a situation where there is a couples site, singles site, gay etc? , filtering at all levels allow us all to co exist in the same site whilst also protecting our right to privacy to be seen and messaged by our target groups

I cant see a couples only site doing very well.... oh yeah it didn't

The thing about doing something for the majority, is that the majority have to agree, so if the single men cant see the couples profiles, they will disagree, if the single women cant see couples profiles they will disagree need I go on. And which is the biggest subscriber group??? You dont bite the hand that feeds you, and fabs is a business first and foremost.

I for one, can understand why you want it, however I dont.

Let them perv in peace, (Plenty of people enjoy the attention... how many pics get fabbed every hour?) or just stick your pics in friends only as has been suggested.

I can see where you coming from but.......it't illogical, is the business model to get people to pay to look at profiles that they haven't a chance with?, is that the sites true cost to couples/ whoever, in that we are here to support the continued subscription of men/whoever trying their luck.

Going round in circles, long and short of it is

Admin : As members, we would like you to implement the ability to block via group.

Thank you.

Think maybe admin may need the vote from more than just a couple of site users to do anything.

Me I don't see what the problem is with it way it is but that's just me.

The funny thing here is it would only impact those who wanted to use it to block, all of those with objections wouldn't be touched at all, so why anyone has a problem with this completely confounds us

If the people who you have blocked from mailing you didn't show on your looked@me page, would that be the problem solved for you?

They don't see your updates anyway because local updates only show from mutual matches (ie you must be what they are looking for and they must be what you are looking for)

Absolutely, we cannot stop those looking at us that we are not interested in so why worry about it, totally pointless post simple as that and I thought it was ridiculous last night and I haven't changed my mind. The only way to stop those you are not interested in is to block them

exactly. our profile is on here only for us to find people that we want to meet (single guys). Its not there for anyone elses enjoyment to be honest with you.

If we wanted to provide material for allsorts that are not who we want to meet we would place pics on sites for that. but there are groups we really would prefer were not looking at our profile, so wpuld be good to block those groups of people. Not saying there is anything wrong with them just they are not who we are looking to meet. And blocking them individually fills up your block list alot and takes ages. be perfect if you could just not be visable to those groups you choose.

It could also help others who have not looking for .... we will find you when we want you ... on their profiles. block that group and unblock when you are wanting them.

We are on the right site for us would just like to exclude some groups from even seeing our profile then it would be perfect. if others are happy will alsorts viewing profile thats great everyone uses site how it suits them and this woukd not effect anyone who didnt want to use it .. well except some might get block in the group they are in.

See what I'm reading is We like this site BUT... just change this for us from A very few people.

Use the site as it is or dont

Admin already give you the tools to stop people looking at your pics, Friends only and private. You also have a hide profile option.

If you feel you are above allowing any registered tom dick and harry from viewing your pics/profile then simply Don't display anything or leave

Simply take a chill pill

We are asking for a change that impacts us, not you, you would still be free to show what you want, what gives you the right to say who we can show what to? ( unless you own the site)

i dont care who looks at my profile I am not so up myself that I would think lots do. I put message filters on for certain categories not to message me and I think thats all we need to do. If we keep asking for more and more and more we are going to have to pay more and i am quite happy paying what i do now. Maybe now ppl have seen your post they will think oops we best not check their profile out who knows it might have worked have fun
