Messages "improvements" ??
Jump to: Newest in thread
Hello.
Just some food for thought
No particular order.
Issue because men spam messages, spam accounts, women get overwhelmed
But genuine chats / interactions do get lost / missed.
1. Message "weighting" algorithm
Ok so let's say you send a message, (1st to a new account) it should be treated like a cold call, as in it goes to the back of the queue.
If a message is read or thr account has interacted with each other.
Then it goes higher up..
Repeat, this way the more accounts interact with each other the easier it is to do so.
I've had several occasions, where I've been chatting / flirting.. only to get bumped by spam, because said lady posts a new pic.
*I'm well aware sometimes things fizzle out. But I've had occasions where the chat is picked up much later.
The amount of messages I send that are never even read or seen, means you can go a whole year and that message be lost to the ether
You intentions might be genuine, but it feels like spamming sometimes, just to repeat message to say hello.
2. Maybe you could limit interactions between accounts if there had been no prior interaction??
I.e if you send a message and no response you can't keep sending more messages * maybe limit to 3?
3. A "not interested" response.
Get a message, not viking or interested... maybe a button the recipient checks and the account gets notified.
If the sender tries to "spam" auto filter saying.. this account is not interested.. and you can rinse repeat?
I just think the messages and spam accounts .. spoil genuine interactions |

1.. if it its a new account then noone will have interacted with them before so who goes to the back of the queue?... your messages are seen wether they have loads to go through the person is just choosing not to reply
3.. a no reply is a no response.

By back of the queue I mean, like a regular message.
I totally agree, no reply is a reply.
If the message has been read.
My point is to try and make it easier to converse with those you are talking too..
Rather than spam.
I've had several conversations picked up later.
But you might not want to add someone as a friend straight away..
But you might want to be able to see thier messages above the spam.
A bit like an "acquaintance" setting for want of a better word |

I've been having conversations with people.
Over several days.
Then, one instance the person posted a pucture.
Got sent loads of messages.
We then picked up our chat a day or so after
*fwiw I used to mod another adult site years ago (profile mod) so I'd look at how people interact also.
Any chat / open communication be it work or personal. Can be refined so users get the most out of it. |

Again, what is “spam”? |

I think OP believes his messages are being ignored because they're getting swamped under the sheer volume of "less-worthy" messages in women's inboxes |

I suppose spam again is a loose term.
But for instance..
If I want to be available to messages from everyone... I can be.
This might mean I might get some messages that don't interst me or might be abusive or criticism ( I might have posted a picture / update or forum post that might have triggered reactions)
So that's part of being open / online ... cool
I could have preferences that I could "filter"
Like only hearing from site supporters, or verified etc etc.
But that's a broad ish brush and not everyone takes fab soo seriously.
I could block all men/women whatever
But does it mean because I don't want messages like.
"Wanna suck", "want your balls drained" from men, I have to exclude all men????
It's not even, a sexual orientation thing or male/ female or whatever
It's just some messages won't land.
Likewise.. some people seem to like "trolling" people abot pics / posts whatever..
My main point in the suggestions (possibly badly made)
Is that, it would nice to have fiber control over what comes through
And it should be easier to stay in connection with those your talking too.
Most other social platforms are better at it.. |

"If someone is chatting to you and suddenly get lots of messages if they really wanted to keep chatting they will"
They will, And have.
I'm talking generally. But I think my point/ intention has been lost |

Let each user to be able to sort and organise their inbox in the way that works for them. It's much too basic as it is. If Fab is to add more mailbox options, ideally each person could organise it the way that works for them.
For a site that's about finding and engaging with people, these 2 key elements should be optimised to near perfection. Getting searching and filtering right, let's people more easily find the right matches.
Then, getting the engagement part really working well, satisfies the need that people have to interact with new people or established friends.
It's currently a real challenge to organise contacts/friends, when you have been here a while. This impacts on how hard or easy it is, to be able to communicate within the site.
The OPs suggestion is a good pointer, towards easier communication but doesn't quite fit what I think could better suit many of us. |

How do you ascertain "genuine chats"? I could spam a retinue of the finest ladies with genuine messages. |

I think the point is was trying to make is.
It could be more customisable, without hard filters.
I don't want to block all dudes because I don't want to fuck them.
If we cross paths socially or in forums/chat rooms.. I'd receive a message well like any other.
For a "social" site.
It's all a bit of a blunt instrument is my main point really.
Like "if" i was a woman...
*I say this as they get the bulk of the traffic (messages)
I'd like to be able to filter out all the short messages
So I didn't have to look at soo many
"Hey"
"Fuck?"
Messages etc etc.
Likewise
Most profiles say... please attach a picture.
So why can't you filter out or only allow messages with a picture.
Yes you might just get a dick pic
But if someone hasn't bothered to put any pictures on here. Then chances it saves you having to recieve messages from a faceless blank profile |

Spam is subjective.
That's my point.
So like you can put spam filters on your emails.
And tag them (high priority/ star etc etc)
That's kind of what I'm getting at.
My friend gets lots of cold calls in thier job and lots of emails, which are more sophisticated than a lot of just junk mail type marketers.. he's able to cut out loads using various secondary filters.
I'm just saying the techs moved on from old mailboxes
Like anything it should be for the user if thier own account to choose to use ... or not.

You can filter out profiles with no public pictures using message filters |

A few simple suggestions; messages from people on your friends list should automatically jump to the top of your inbox, without having to apply the filter.
In relation to message spam, there should be a quick and easy 'block' button at the top of the message thread and people should be used to use it liberally.
Less clicks and quicker results is the way forward. |
