I think in general the site search is okay, once you know how to use the flaws to your advantage. However I know it can be frustrating for coastal users. ie, do a 30 mile search in Kent and you always get results from Essex and even the Midlands depending on your postcode.
As you've all probably worked out, the site is using an 'as the crow fly's' search algorithm, which depending where you are will give unwanted results. ATCF's search function is cheap (free), and I guess easy to maintain.
I was speaking to someone about this a while ago and they suggested that fab could easily implement a search using postcode geo location data (using free database available in the UK), which once setup correctly would heavily reduce the search mismatches along coastal areas.
Once implemented, I would assume the clubs list could also be overhauled in the same way. Op is correct about how poor the location data is in the clubs section and it does need sorting out.

"Dear Admin,
Vanilla Alternative is not in the south east it’s East Midlands (north of London) could you amend please? "
It's in Sandy thats not East Mids. It's got an SG postcode which means it's main postal sorting office is Stevenage which is Hertfordshire. |
