Does anyone else think there should be an option to say you vape rather than smoke? Completely understand why people might not want to meet smokers or vapers, but it feels like it would be more honest to have a 'vape' option on profiles, and then also people could search for profiles that vape but don't smoke? Interested to hear what others think.

I'm listed as a non smoker.

I vape.

I mention it if/when any meet may happen. Never been an issue so far but if it was then I'd just not meet them.

Vaping is not smoking. 🤷‍♂️

Here and there

Of course it is smoking the flavours mask what is in them.

Obviously not as toxic to smoker but ask yourself this.

Vaping like smoking cigs are banned on public transport hospitals etc as relatively new concept and not enough evidence as to long term damage may be caused.

In say 20 to 30 years more will be known but lets say you are say boss of a restaurant etc and you allow vaping and someone disagreed with vaping and that person gets say lung cancer potential claims will start.

That is why it will not be allowed in places mentioned

No it’s not smoking! It’s that simple … if nothing else you can look for clues in the name, smoking … smoke, vaping.. vapour.

Obviously not as toxic to smoker but ask yourself this.

Ask yourself this…Why is it not as toxic if it’s smoking ?

Vaping like smoking cigs are banned on public transport hospitals etc as relatively new concept and not enough evidence as to long term damage may be caused.

We surely are aware of the effects of inhaling the substances in a vape? The substances aren’t new, a review of their safety data sheets can provide this information

In say 20 to 30 years more will be known but lets say you are say boss of a restaurant etc and you allow vaping and someone disagreed with vaping and that person gets say lung cancer potential claims will start.

Imagine, you were the boss of wherever, would you be so quick to ban the likes of air fresheners?

That is why it will not be allowed in places mentioned "

When I discussed vaping with a nurse during a medical appoinment recently she was quite clear “it’s harmful” … I asked how… after consulting a colleague for 10 minutes she returned … “yes I was right… it’s harmful!” Was the best she could manage.

I gave up smoking g when I had throat cancer. My oncologist advised against vaping as not enough was known about the long term damage. I took him at his word.

I vape and it is my choice. I will always let my partners know and will refrain from vaping if required.

I hate being judged like a smoker. I used to smoke and I feel so much better now.

When I vape nicotine free liquid, why I often do, 100% of the ingredients vaped can be found in various foodstuffs.

There's no fire. No combustion. Hence no smoke.

It's not smoking.

GONE/TIMEOUT (No DMs please)

People come into my office having vaped outside the building, and they're talking to me and I can small the blueberry crackles and cranberry bursts and whatnot that they're breathing out.... the same as I would with tobacco smoke.

It is up to you what you do in your own home.

But I very much consider it the same as smoking.

Some really interesting different viewpoints! For me, I feel like vaping is smoking-adjacent, which is why I reckon there could be an option to include it. A big part of this lifestyle is all about open and honest communication. I think for now I'll put something in my profile explaining, but would be interesting to see if it's something that's added to the site in the future.

Thanks to everyone who gave their thoughts!

Vaping is absolutely NOT the same as smoking.

Smoking happens by burning something, like tobacco. A by product of inhaling the smoke from burning tobacco is the ingestion of the addictive component which is the nicotine. The resultant exhaled smoke from this process has a physical quality that can stain clothes and lingering stale smell in rooms where smoked.

Vaping does not burn anything’s it still allows the user to inhale nicotine however this is by inhaling water vapour not smoke, and that vapour is created by indirectly heating up liquid containing nicotine (e-juice) which are often flavoured to suit taste.

Water vapour may look like smoke but it’s completely different - it will evaporate in the air so whilst a faint smell of the flavour can be detected by others when vaping happens, the air soon clears from it and there are no lingering smells of damage from staining.

So smoking happens by burning tobacco to create smoke which is inhaled. Vaping heats up a liquid which then releases water vapour. Two totally different things - you may as well call boiling a kettle ‘smoking’ as it too creates water vapour through super heating something.

I’m a smoker who goes through periods of vaping. I’ve heard the competitive dangers stated by experts as - vaping being like driving on the motorway at 80mph whereas smoking is like doing 80 but the wrong way!

People getting confused between the two leading to ridiculous loops for vapers to go through hasn’t been helped by the big vape mods that chuck out huge plumes of vapour. It looks extreme to onlookers and fuels the mistaken belief it’s just like smoking and sadly that drives policy to treat it the same, where I think vaping should be encouraged amongst smokers to allow them to taper down and quit nicotine, not force them to an inconvenient place where they may be tempted to just smoke.

It’s perfectly possible for people to vape with barely any detectable vapour - either through the type of e-liquid used or by using the ‘double swallow’ technique when inhaling. I wish people would as it’s a much clearer difference to fag smoking and prevents incorrect statements about them being the same
