I'd like to be able to click on "you mailed this person n weeks ago" to read the mail.

If you have them saved your able to see them. The part that you are mentioning has been brought up before and doesn't seem it's going to happen

A work around is to save the URL ofn any message exchanges, as personal notes under that profile.
