proximity search and postal codes

Perhaps area code works well in the UK, but in the US the area covered by an area code varies wildly. In metro areas it is not uncommon to have a dozen different area codes within a few miles. On this city block I live on I have neighbors with 3 different area codes.

In more rural areas on the other hand a single area code can cover half the state

Postal codes are much easier to do a distance search on. You can get a free database of zip codes from the USGS including latitude and longitude and use that to build a distance sort into the search and browse which will make it much easier to find nearby people to seeing with.

I don't know if the US site is different from the UK one but in the advanced search you can do a proximity to your (or whichever one you enter) postal code

The USA site doesn't have option for postal codes anywhere. No place to add to profile, no place to search. And area code doesn't have proximity only exact match. It is annoying to have to individually search every area code in the metro area.

The way it works at the moment is "not ideal". We will be adding proximity search first half of the year; location data exists for the area codes
