Mobile distance - is it reliable?

Wherever I lay my hat

I use the mobile distance from me as the 'reliable' indicator of how close someone is to me when they were last active on Fab.

Is this reliable? Twice today people have told me their current location but their mobile location is wildly different (eg Edinburgh and London!). Red flags flapping wildly for me.

Can anyone convince me of a valid reason for this disparity other than the person is full of BS?!

GONE/TIMEOUT (No DMs please)

They may be changing their postcode to search for people in a certain area?

Logging in on desktop/tablet and mobile throws mine back and forth between my registered postcode and where I am at the time.

Also mountains mean the 10 miles on fab can be 30+ by road.

But it can be pretty accurate under 10 miles.

Newcastle

It can vary if they are using VPN and which mast they are connected to but roughly it's 10 miles unless they are actually further

Near Wells

It's reliable unless there is a channel of water between you.

I'm in Mid Somerset and guys message me from Cardiff asking for meets as I'm only 30 miles away. Which is true if you have a boat.

It doesn't take account of The Bristol Channel which means driving up the M5 and over the Serven Bridge which is about 80 miles and almost a two hour drive.

You should also consider that some people travel for work etc so someone with a town/postcode of Edinburgh could be 1 mile away from you in London as they are currently in your town

It is not reliable... definitely not...

It doesn't mean the person is full of BS...

It's often down to phone settings on the persons phone not being set to show current location.

Edinburgh

I would add that the updates to the distance while people are traveling to a meet are not always instant.
