I’m sure this exists already but it confuses us as to why threads get closed. On other forums threads can go on for thousands of chats and we don’t really understand the issue with that. Is it a technical constraint?

Normally they close automatically at 175, sometimes mods close threads down but it then says it was closed by moderator.

Central

It's been at the current limit for many years and perhaps since the site started?

Most topics can manage at that level, with a tiny minority resulting in a follow-up thread.

Fab is free to use but has operating costs, with bandwidth accounting for much of them. We all would like little tweeks here and there but, assuming a finite pot of money and limited time and resources to implement them, there has to be a limit and strategy to prioritise them.

User demand will influence this. Admin review all suggestions and may consider changing the thread post limit size, if it is indeed possible to implement it.

My guess is that we get by, just about OK with it as now. Many threads are near duplicates of what's been before anyway. There's no limits on starting a similar thread, when the 1st got to its limit. More could be helpful but I'd choose more comprehensive profile search criteria abilities any day, over this, despite being a prolific forum user.
