got me thinking - would it be an idea if all site photos had a digonal watermark emblazoned on them 8 opaque enough to be seen but clear enough to not obscure the image. that way if someone does nick photos, admin/photo modes will spot the theft immediately the thief tried to upload as their own.
OK so its not foolproof but might go some way to stopping the simply copy/paste
On subject of copy/paste, I know there are some sites where that functionality does not work - dont ask me how but our grandkid was trying to copy a flag for a school project but the site in question was such that you simply could not copy the image - so the technology clearly exists. |

I think a opaque watermark would be good.
It's impossible to stop an image from being taken from a site though, even if right click is dissabled with javascript and a clear image is put over the top to stop drag n drop I can still think of 3 other ways to get it that can't be stopped.

there are plenty of free programmes online that you can use to watermark pics yourself before uploading to the site. We started doing it to our photos after finding out some of our images had been taken and used elsewhere. |

You CANNOT stop someone steeling you pictures...while watermarking is a way to ensure they are not uploaded to other sites, it doesn't stop them being nicked.
Remember..when you put an image on a website it is saved there, when someone asks for a page on a website it is requested from the server.. ALL the page is then downloaded to your computer where you browser then assembles it into the page (using the HTML language) therefore any images on the page requested are downloaded to your computer. So if a user wants to nick your images they just ask for the page and then look where the image has been stored, they have your image.
You should also be aware of this because if you donot clear your history and temp files after you close you browser these images may still be on your computer, for you nosey children to find!!!!
REMEMBER.. don't upload anything to the internet you don't want others to see!!! |
