the block system!
Jump to: Newest in thread
Hi admin. I think I have a terrific idea to improve the block system.
Lets say we want to block person A. When we block them there should be a check box with a list of reasons, for example
A/ out of our/my age bracket
B/ not looking for singles
c/ not looking for bi curious or bi sexual
D/ not my type
E/ Etc Etc Etc
Once we have checked the relivant box and blocked the person it goes on system so that when person A views our profile instead of getting the "you are unable to view this profile because they have blocked you" message, they will get something along the lines of, you are unable to view this profile as they have blocked you for the following reason A,B,C etc
This would make people understand the reason behind being blocked by anyone a little better and stop them being annoyed at random blockings.
What does anyone think? |

I can think of a hundred different reasons why I might block someone, and I suspect other users could think of hundreds more! Are you proposing to list all of them? |

I'd agree with that, as the block system....like many other things on this site...is broken. |

a hundred different reasons? go on then ill throw down the challenge
clearly a list of 100 is inpractical but then im sure you already knew that, but then a list of 5-10 would probaly cover all your 100 reasons in some way shape or form.
how long do you want to compile the list? |

i agree with this and was going to suggest it, but didnt because we will get people with nothing between their ears saying "they will only abuse other members"
maybe a free txt box which admin have to approve before it goes live |

Happily I have got something between my ears but will still say that is suggested might give people a platform to abuse people on their message and unless Admin have more time on their hands it would need an army of people to approve any message.
To the original suggestion.....if people are inclined to get annoyed that others have blocked them, a message saying why they were blocked would probably not make things any better. |

what makes you say that rugby? you only have to look on the forums for the amount of people starting threads about being disgruntled, miffed, annoyed at being blocked for whatthey seem "no reason"
now surely when they view a profile if it say this person has blocked you because you dont fit the criteria of a,b,c or whatever, that can only make sense!
as for the filters, yeah ok so some people will use the filters, many dont, but surely the filters can stop people who fit your criteria messaging you can they? so what if someone fits your criteria but you actually dont like them and block them, surely a message saying "not our type" would suffice.
its a great idea and should be put into practice, it would certainly cut down on the number of threads started by blocked people if nowt else |

Because I think anyone who can't accept without getting annoyed that another member has a right to block them isn't going to accept a reason either.
you would probably still get people posting threads saying "this person blocked me and the message said I wasn't her type" etc |

Okay sort of but there is a little note thingy that one can do that will say why you have blocked someone, so not sure there is any point in having an other |

"well as you know we cant please everyone, but i certainly think it would help 80% of people understand why they have been blocked." I just don't think it's realistically do'able as people block for so many reasons, so at some point after option A,B,C & D you would need a box just called 'other' which doesn't leave the blocked person any wiser as to why he was blocked in the first place!

Sometimes I block people that get ideas and then think that everyone MUST agree with them or else they must be mad. You know, the person who will be right no matter.
What section would that go under?
Or the guy who starts off with wonderful polite messages, that slowly degenerate into crude rubbish once you agree to meet. Where does he get classified. |

But how many would type "blocked cos your a fooking arsehole"? lol" I have blocked profiles because of pictures that show them having bareback sex with multiple partners, I couldn't write that in a box as that's their choice! |

so, basically what people are saying is the list of reasons has to be specific?
does it really?
I mean lets be honest, if your blocking someone who has bareback sex on thier pictures would "not my type" cover that??
really now its a great idea to give the blocked person a reason, be it true or not, but the descriptions do not and could not possibly be 100% tailored to every case.
the list pretty much covers every eventuality and i dare say no one can put a reason on here that wouldnt fit into 1 of the following catagories.
1. Not looking for your sexual orientation
2. Age bracket
3. Not looking for singles
4. Not looking for couples.
5. Not my/our type
6. No correspondance previously
7. Profile inadequate for us
8.
well i cant think of anymore which shows you how these so called "hundreds" of reason can all be catagorised into 1 simple list. |

Put bluntly sweet, nobody really gives a shit! If I block some arse for being an arse, I really don't care what he (or she) thinks. If they then want to bleat about it on the forum, so what? If you don't like their whining, don't read it!

The truth is blocking is an option and it means I don't want to meet them - end of
I din't need to give a reason and I certainly don't want to fill in a bloody survey each time I block someone.
Yes people moan about it but then they moan about everything
People should use the site as it is and stop analysing everything and trying to 'improve' things that don't need it
There are more important things in the world to worry about than why some total stranger doesn't want to meet you off a sex site ! |

Thought the whole point of the forums was to let people have their say and this one is for suggestions?
I for one would of liked to of known why i was blocked the other day? Had never spoken to this person.
They sent me an invite then blocked me
Now a box that they could of ticked would of been nice to say changed their mind rather than leaving me thinking what an earth i had done wrong? |

I don't really want to fill in a tick list of why ive blocked someone so that they have the opportunity of knowing why
Its rare for me to block anyway,I much prefer to use the private note function if I want to remind myself about a profile
In turn I have no interest to know why someone would have blocked me either its not going to change how I am,or how I use the site in anyway at all |

But the reason you hoped you would get, i.e. "changed their mind" is not on the list, so that's one more. At what point does is start to get silly? Don't forget people will only start threads with a "We want to suggest another reason" title!
If I block someone, then I feel I had a reason. Often, I block profile I have read casually that does not interest me. Why should I give a reason? |

I think the system has a lot of merits and could help. I know the arguements for keeping the existing system, and I understand that if you're the person who's doing the blocking it's not your problem, however it might be useful to the people who are being blocked allowing them to make more informed choices when contacting people in the future.
Just some thoughts
