Having a nosy around the forums, there are dedicated threads for the virus, clubs and many other subjects, but not a permanent one for information on sexual health.
I feel it would be a welcomed subject and useful addition.
Links to places for testing, either physically or by post.
When clubs will be having a clinic at their establishment.
Obviously, not just a thread for STI/STD information, but general sexual health as well.
Advice on safely using and cleaning of sex toys if sharing.
Signs to be aware of for spotting certain ailments.
Mental health regarding the lifestyle (it can take its toll at times).
Perhaps even people sharing their own personal experiences, so that others can learn or identify from it.
Would this be a possibility for a permanent thread? |

A danger of that is people getting their medical advice from someone who once had an itch but went away all by itself so there is obviously nothing to worry about. Instead of getting it checked out by a professional and getting proper treatment or the all clear. |

Obviously there's always armchair experts who has more information than an encyclopedia and knows 'someone' who had whatever the subject of the moment is.
There just doesn't seem any support on the one thing we're all exposed to in this lifestyle. |

I know from experience up here in Hull a few years ago, that a Sexual Health organisation attended the Social Meetings, usually announced via here and in people's profiles.
They were very good, covered all subject matters and even took swab samples to be tested and the results notified back to each contributor They provided lube and condoms too. |

That's good to hear.
There are some clubs that help with screening/testing, which is an added bonus.
I do think it would be beneficial to site users for a forum section with information regarding where and when they can visit, contact or help people in the lifestyle. |

But just imagine if we could teach people on here about PrEP? And how it is impossible to get HIV from someone who is HIV/undetectable or on PrEP?
And how the examples above vs someone tester every 3months, the examples above are much safer?
Nah.. no one would believe you still

And the above statements are why a section for sexual health would be beneficial to everyone.
Education.
Shared knowledge.
Experience.
There's a section for Covid, but not the Flu or common cold, which are all passed on by others, so why not a sexual health section?
Venues could post when their screening was happening.
Members with a medical employment could point people in the right direction for advice.
The site could help people have a healthier and more educated lifestyle |

It could be an overall (not clothing ) section that potentially included or linked to a forum sub-section, where people discussed the topics?
Seems potentially a good idea. We don't have sticky topics in the forum, that always remain prominent - though some have requested them - which could be an alternative, if inclusive of health materials. |

Think this would be an awesome idea sexual health is so much more than use a condom or don't, until I saw a recent post I didn't realise you could get at home self tests (one in the post now). As they say knowledge is power and the more information we share in the lifestyle the better |

I regularly do at home tests as it's easier although I still don't like pricking my fingers |

Not so much a forum but lists of names and places you can get tested or request a home test would be a brilliant idea , like the club section , so you could have a Midlands section where websites of GUM clinics are , etc |

"Definitely not.
Talk about a mood killer. "A forum to talk about your symptoms". What?
People are aware enough without having to belabour it.
"
It would be advice on there, not washing dirty linen in public.
Nobody would be asking to see your test results lol |

I think it's a good idea as anything which encourages good sexual health is just as important as other health issues and where better than on here. Dont forget, like Covid, prevention measures protect all of us. When I were young the biggest worry was an unwanted pregnancy but although sti's are as old as man, and woman, my generation at least and I'm sure others as well could benefit from something that provides a forum where such information can be readily obtained. I think many would be very surprised at how common sti's are,how easy it is to catch them and how to prevent contracting them e.g.HIV,as one lady mentioned via PrEP or PEP if taken within 72 hours of exposure or jabs to prevent Hep B. When to get tested, how often and how easy it is to do in many places through online services. I have discovered more in the last two years than I knew in my life. |

Google isn't always your friend.
It's geared towards the big advertisers who just want filthy lucre and not the best interests of the real companies that want to help.
Fab is as good a place as any, especially as it is aimed at the swinging scene, so where better for the right information? |

"I would expand it to be Health and Wellbeing in general, not just sexual health.
I have suggested before that the virtually unused Canada thread could be deleted to make space for it. "
Good call. |

it would be good but there is often a lot of false information given out on fab which is the risk.
a few handy websites to get tests from are
sh24.org.uk
freetest.me
freetesting.hiv
there is also the CCard scheme where under 25s can get free condoms.
A lot of clinics are also sending out their own test kits so worth checking with them first- they usually have a webpage with the information on. using the big companies means funding gets taken away from the actual clinics

I am a sexual health specialist as my profession. I think it's vital as some of the things I see on this site are exceptionally worrying. However, I have given advice before on here and was shot down, people not believing my creditials or just deciding they know best so while I'd love to help in this capacity...I'll have to save it for when I'm actually at work. All I'd say is...condoms and test test test. It's free it's confidential it's easy. |
