Properly explain forum bans and suspensions

Hi. I’m just back from a five-day forum suspension. That’s fine; the site has rules, and they have to be enforced.

I’d really like to know *why* I was suspended, though.

I received a cut-and-paste form email citing “abusive behaviour”. Mystified, I messaged the admins to ask what I’d said or done that could be considered abusive.

Tumblew**d.

I still have genuinely no idea what I did wrong.

I’m one of the lucky ones: I’ve been allowed back to paste this query. There are people who’ve been permabanned from the forums, and they don’t understand why either. All queries to the mods are ignored.

Again: I’m not complaining or protesting, or trying to cause drama. I just want to know what the offence was, so I can be sure to avoid making it again in future.

Properly explaining forum bans and suspensions would make the forum experience more positive for everyone. Clearer lines around what is and isn’t permissible would reduce the number of inadvertent slip-ups. More transparency would ensure fair and proportionate application of the rules, and head off any perception of heavy-handedness on the part of the admins.

Thanks for listening. Hopefully we can all work together to make Fab… well, even more fab.

[EDIT: Apologies for the repeat edits. Caught out by the word filter again.]

If you accidentally make a mistake it would help, so that you don't repeat said mistake.

O o O oo

Lots of points to answer so will go in order.

The reason will be on the mail. If you really can't figure out why if you go back over your posts and see which are removed it would probably give you some idea

If you query a ban with Admin from the contact link and don't receive a reply you should assume it was the right ban

If people get perm bans it is normally because they have had many bans or keep getting banned for the same thing or having been banned before on another account

Sweary ranty posts should be left off the forum as explained in the forum summary

Mods are instructed on when to apply bans. If there was heavy handed bans given out they would be overturned.

To the next post, if everyone checked out the forum rules before they post we shouldn't really be getting it wrong. Some people don't bother reading them/ ignore them even having read them or post saying this is worth the ban and do it anyway. People can't blame anyone else if they break rules
