Reporting people for meeting in covid is pointless then...

So should you feel it necessary, you can report people meeting via this site during covid lockdowns.

But it turns out if you do, all that happens is that users account you reported is blocked to *you*, giving the impression action is taken when in fact nothing is done and everyone else can view the reported account like normal.

If you login to another account that isn't the one you reported from, you'll see nothing has happened and they're completely unaffected.

Why even bother with the reporting option if it's just to deceive the reporting person that the site has taken action?

What would you want to happen?

Fab admins can't really go around banning people for doing what consenting adults what to do.

They are not the police

"What would you want to happen?"

At the very least I'd want them to be suspended. At most I'd want their account deleted.

"Fab admins can't really go around banning people"

They can and do. All the time.

"They are not the police"

... nobody is talking about the mods going round to their house and arresting them.

I'd like to see repeat offenders banned on a sliding scale. Keep doing it, the ban gets longer each time. Say 1 month to start with, rising to 5 months. Once more and it's a permanent ban. People would soon learn.

Admin aren't the police, but they do "police" the site.

They wouldn't be banning consenting adults for what consenting adults do, they'd be banned for breaching site rules.

"What would you want to happen?"

I'd expect Fab to practise what it preaches?

What's the point in the 'COVID-19: Time for virtual meets, chats. Solidarity with Social Distancing and our NHS' statements plastered all over the homepage, and strong statements about meeting can and will be viewed as breaking the T&C's of the site if actually it's all just an illusion.

If any of us follows this guidance and is concerned enough to report someone for the moderators to look at, I expect it to mean something, not just deceive us into believing we've done the right thing when in actual fact the account that concerned us continues on acting against the 'policies' of the site untouched.

Don't get me wrong I totally understand Fab is a business, it was that fact that got me suspicious that users were actually being suspended in the first place and what led me to confirm my suspicion.

No what I find wrong is the fact the site misleads the user base with this policy.

If you're going to tell users that the site has a zero tolerance approach to meets and supports the government approach at every turn then it should do so.

Intentionally giving users the impression they've supported the sites policies and the site has taken action when actually it's done nothing except provide the illusion of a response is wrong.

I'd rather they simply didn't bother with the pretence at all if that's all that is going to happen.

I agree.

It's also not the first time the user has posted that comment. Got the same responses last time, still ignores the obvious.

The thing is everyone is ready to jump on others comments. And twist it to their advantage.

Did say you should meet. Just be Mr and Mrs tell tail.

Look just staying at home in not going to stop this virus. Sanitation will be the top solver.

For instance my mum and dad have been shielding form March. And have got corona frome present delivery.

So first hand experience. Stay at home. Clean. Use gloves. Ant bac everywhere every thing.

Don't wast time on reporting. Just make shore you clean. Keep yourself and others safe.

So in a snip I missed Christmas with my parents who have been home for every. And one parcel delivered it to them.

Thousands of people have to go out. And have jobs the have to do. Like me.

So someone is probably reporting my for going out everyday. Without knowing the full story.

So every time you touch a serface anti back. Don't breath someone's vap cloud.

Hope this clears up the trolls.

Be safe clean sanatise everything. Now that's will help.

Stay safe.

Noble, but actually pointless; if you have a second account you can check this for yourself.

Let's say it's your account that did the reporting. Having done do after a short pause the account you reported will disappear and if you had the reported account open in another tab, it will now show as suspended on a refresh, but in reality the 'suspended' account will be perfectly accessible to everyone else but you.

This makes you feel good for supporting the site and the moderators which advise you to report those meeting, but in reality is an illusion only to yourself as that account isn't suspended at all.

You're probably right. Anyhow I've said my piece; Ill just ignore the rule breakers from here on in, or personally block them.

As admin don't tell people what action they've taken I'm not sure how anybody can claim to know.

My next post will say how reports are dealt with.

Here is an explanation from Admin from another thread on how they deal with reports.

******Just a quick note. If people report others and we can verify that they have broken site rules, we always take action (either a first and final warning, partially suspended account, fully suspended, mixture of the above).

Every single report sent via the REPORT link is reviewed. Clearly it's not in our interests to have people on here who are bad for the site. Equally we need to verify what has been reported and be fair to those who have been reported.

Admin

PS. we never provide feedback on what has happened. It's just not practical given that we get 100s of reports a day.

Here is what the page says after a report has been submitted:

--

Your feedback has been saved.

A website admin will shortly review your feedback and take the necessary action. After reviewing the evidence available to us, we may disable an account, remove a user, disable certain aspects of that user's account or issue a warning.

By leaving feedback you help improve the site for everyone who uses it. Thank you.******
