Potential scam

I'll cut a long story short. Recently I swapped messages with a profile which was both photo-verified and verified by other users. I'd reverse-image checked the publicly shown pics and found nothing. The profile mentioned a quick and early phone call to confirm our authenticity and this was arranged with an exchange of phone numbers. At this point the profile added me as a friend.
A quick check of the 'friend-only' pics revealed 3 pics that were clearly harvested from other sources, and when the original pics were seen, clearly showed 3 different women. I reported the fake pics to the mods and awaited the phone call from the profile. I was intrigued- was this a 'wind-up' or was it a more sinister 'scam'.
The call came and it was not so much a chat with a mid-20s woman, but a woman in her mid-50s clearly reading (badly) from a script for several minutes. The gist was that she would pay for a 5-star hotel and I would reimburse her by bank transfer before we met.
Do I think this is a scam? Yes, it seems very likely.
Can I prove this is a scam? No- that would involve me handing over £200-plus to then discover there is no hotel booking and no meet.
Again, I reported the potential scam to the mods. In the meantime the offending fake pics had been removed from the profile, but another had been uploaded as the profile pic. A reverse-image search showed the new pic to be a completely different woman again. All the fake pics were harvested from a site called theCHIVE.
What worries me is that the profile is still active. Is there a protocol for how many 'strikes' a profile can have for posting fake pics before the account is closed? I appreciate it's time consuming for mods to reverse-image check every pic, further complicated by members legitimately posting their own pics elsewhere on the 'net.
So has anyone else encountered this (or similar) profiles asking for the "I'll-pay-and-you-reimburse" concept? If so, were you scammed? Or, bearing in mind this profile is both photo and meet verified, did it turn out to be completely legit? |

Social meet before anything is the key to this problem.
Ask to meet social first and see how things go, hotel doesn't need booking in advance, can be done on the spot once all parties are good and ready for the next step. |

Hasn't happened to me but I know it happens - all you can do is report the profile and provide as much detail as possible.
Think you did everything right to be honest - anyone expecting payment up front would set my spidey senses tingling.
Appreciate others do things differently but personally I don't even consider meeting anyone until we have been chatting for a while and I have a fair level of comfort that they are genuine and on the same wavelength to me in their approach to all this - which would include splitting any costs equally between us |

On here is no different to anywhere else scammers will try to take your money. I wouldn’t care if they looked like Kelly Brooke they’d get told to get fckd.
There’s too much fake mutual verification on here to make it worth bothering to look anymore.
More annoying than the fact they are still on here is that if they do get booted the others on their veries wont meaning they’ll come straight back with another profile & instantly get vetoed again.
Mods need to do a veri trail & wipe them all, it would be like burning down a scammer family tree.

I did try and keep it as short as possible, but had to include some detail so people might recognise the 'scam' involved. |

Thanks for the replies.
I'm very much aware of potential fakes and scams on here. I didn't fall for the attempted scam and I was just trying to warn others and ask if anyone else has had a similar experience.
If you have, report it to the mods and let's try and get these fraudsters kicked off here. |

Once again, I didn't get scammed, the purpose of the post was to warn others.
If your point is that there's a degree of personal responsibility here not to fall for an obvious scam, I'd agree with you. But it doesn't diminish from the fact that the scammers are committing fraud. And we should all be trying to make it as hard as possible for them to do that on this site... |

If your point is that there's a degree of personal responsibility here not to fall for an obvious scam, I'd agree with you. But it doesn't diminish from the fact that the scammers are committing fraud. And we should all be trying to make it as hard as possible for them to do that on this site..."

All reports are investigated and if needed a warning sent. If you think that was the wrong decision then again, you need to ask Admin to review rather than complain on the forum
If people keep doing this and accrue many bans for it don't be surprised if it turns into a perm

To the OP, report is the best option and let Admin investigate. I will post onto the next post what they do with reports.
Admin are not on 24 hours a day. They also get hundreds of reports a day so may take up to 48 hours to deal with them
Contrary to posts about Admin doing nothing, the posts I removed proved that people do indeed get dealt with if they break rules |

Here is an explanation from Admin from another thread on how they deal with reports.
******Just a quick note. If people report others and we can verify that they have broken site rules, we always take action (either a first and final warning, partially suspended account, fully suspended, mixture of the above).
Every single report sent via the REPORT link is reviewed. Clearly it's not in our interests to have people on here who are bad for the site. Equally we need to verify what has been reported and be fair to those who have been reported.

PS. we never provide feedback on what has happened. It's just not practical given that we get 100s of reports a day.
Here is what the page says after a report has been submitted:
