"Fab please remove + qoute it makes reading post long all thats needed is the first line of the quote or the Op or posters name "
It's laziness on the quoters part..not editting the text between the ..quotes()
And then someone will quote the quoted reply and it ends up with 4 or 5 quotes in 1 .. normally with a 1 sentence reply..just to the last line of the last quote.. |

"
Am I answering you or Ashtree?"
..but you can do this...but people are lazy..
Seen it quite a bit .. people reply and quoting on posts that have other quotes already in them..so you get this massive block of text..
And they add 1 line.... |

Correct, people can and sometimes do. But the OP was about removing the +quote button entirely, that is what I was answering. |

It saves people trying to catch the discussion by having to read all the way back up the thread to find out what's been said and how relevant what someone has posted to the latter part of the discussion.
But if you want to read the whole thread just ignore the grey segments.
What I find annoying is people making changes to the (quote) which has also caused issues for others as someone having posted something they haven't and it takes finding the original post but rarely people read whole threads and just to last one then jump on the bandwagon without having actually understood exactly what's been posted.
So do you really want to scroll through the whole thread to see exactly what a particular discussion is about?
It's just as bad as people replying to others without using +quote. Who are they replying to? It can lose the flow of the thread if people don't use +quote and having previous comments in the thread quoted to have the gist of the discussion. There's many discussions within a thread not everyone's posted comment relates to another's.
It's not being lazy +quoting a discussion it's being mindful of others reading it. Which lets face it that's what the forum is for to be read and comprehensible enough for most. Do you think having to scroll through 10,20,30+ comments to find what came before it is effective in saving time or will having the discussion quoted into one post help? |

It would actually improve things if the formatting made the difference between the quote and the post clearer - at the moment it can be quite hard to distinguish where the quote stops and the new post starts! |

I don't think it's reasonable to remove the feature but it could be helpful to add more options that could be used instead. People often just use it to express simple agreement, when an equivalent to 'like' for a post would suffice. It would probably reduce fab IT costs. But just this, which is probably just 1 option that could supplement the quote and post feature, has been requested for many years. It's up to the site owners to decide how they manage and develop it, with a likely list of pending upgrades that are prioritised by them.
As more people use mobiles for viewing, incredibly long marathon requoted multiple posts makes it a significantly less practical and comfortable option for users to have to scroll down through enormous volumes of text. I'd welcome minimal reposts that are long, for my comfort and pleasure, especially when I'm viewing on a mobile. |

How about coding it up to number each post. The quote could point the the number of the post..
Or a hyperlink back to the post...say leaving the original posters name and time of post then a line to make the page go to that post. |

Ok, so I got a chat ban for posting a URL accidentally as I had been using the clipboard for mutliple things and hadn't cleared it. You didn't notify me of the ban or how long it will last. Please can you now lift that ban or at least tell me how long it is for as I am due to renew my membership. |
