"How do you get round the Equality Act 2010 with discriminatory pricing based on gender?
"
There is no need to “get around it” as the laws preventing discrimination based on gender do not apply to private members clubs.
@The Attic, have you decided upon the themes for your party nights yet ? We are keen to see what they are. |

Their club…their rules!! Same as haircuts are more for women than men. "
Completely different, as the complexity of service provided differs between the two.
Gaining access to an entertainment facility, whether pub, club or other leisure environment is exactly the same whether you identify as a male or female. There is no difference in the service provided. |

Hey!! Congratulations on winning the battle to open again! Excited to see the new venue!!
Are you open with same timings as before?
Will you be hosting greedy party this Thursday?
Annnd any plans for new themed events? Like a ‘curvy ladies’ party maybe? Or interracial event.
Ps. I think your price structure is fair and makes sense. Ignore the tight entitled men that think otherwise x |

You don't like how they price things then don't go it's that simple lol
But then that stops you going to all swingers clubs as they are always priced this way.

How does the Act apply to private clubs and other
associations?
Members and associates:
It is unlawful for a private club or other association
to discriminate against, harass or victimise an existing or potential member or an associate. (An associate
is someone who is not a member but who has some or all of the rights of a member because they are a member of an affiliated private club.)
A club cannot refuse membership, or grant membership on less favourable terms (such as by applying
different conditions or fees) because the person has a protected characteristic – disability, gender reassignment, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion
or belief, sex or sexual orientation.
Guests:
It is unlawful for a private club or other association
to discriminate against, harass or victimise a guest
or potential guest of the association. A private club
cannot refuse to invite a person as a guest of the
club, or invite the person on less favourable terms,
such as by imposing special conditions, because of
the guest’s protected characteristic. |

We can all jump on Google and pull out the first article we find that suits our argument but I would encourage you to do a little more research.
The fact that all clubs do it without fear of prosecution should tell you that it’s allowed. You need to realise that whilst it is discriminatory not all discrimination is illegal. It’s the same way we are permitted to have positive discrimination in the workplace to boost representation of minorities, we often only recruit females for example.
Discrimination is permitted where it is for a legitimate aim, in the case of swingers clubs it is in place to control the balance of men to women.
This question is raised regularly, it’s not illegal. But of you wish challenge it I would say go ahead and let a judge make it clearer for you. |

Well you’ve just made sure you won’t be welcome at a lot of clubs so that’s a great win on your part. You do realise that single men are not exactly thin on the ground at swing clubs so they can set whatever rules they like?

Have you ever been to a club before? The attic is ine if the only clubs that allows everyone in on the same nights. Taking about equality when referring to _he attic is actually amusing to be honest. There are reasons the pricing is more...and considering that its BYOB, its hardly an expensive night out is it really. If you can't afford the entrance fee then you wouldn't be able to afford any of the other pm clubs. |

Why is anyone giving that pricing comment any airtime !!
Don't like it, don't go, simples !!
Please stop commenting on it, it's highjacking the great work Attic have put into getting it reopened, it doesn't need this kind of conversation, just ignore it !!! |

The more relevant point would be if you want to have a discussion on this then start a thread titled as such instead of hijacking a thread that celebrates a club pushing through adversity to reopen for us all to enjoy. Why single out _he attic for this?
Personally we have only been to _he attic once as it's quite a way for us to travel but we can see the love that people have for it and all the hard work and money that's gone into providing a place for swingers to go.
As a community we are still frowned upon and ridiculed by the uninformed mainstream. We are classed as perverted of dirty just because of our choices. We are laughed at in "polite society" because we don't conform to their sexual morals.
Places like the Attic and other clubs give us all a safe haven to just be ourselves, to accept eachother for who we are.
Pricing is set to support the club and community. 99% of single guys who go to clubs know they will pay a little extra and accept this. It keeps ratios balanced. There are far far fewer single ladies in the scene so attracting them with lower rates makes sense. Other places do this with ladies nights and even normal nightclubs will sometimes have free entry for ladies and they attract the men and so boost income in general. As you see on fab, single guys far outnumber single ladies and couples so if you look at the pricing structure of attraction then it makes perfect sense. A smaller customer proportion requires different prices to attract. A venue has limited amount of space so needs to price to keep those spaces balanced according to the availability of customers.
For both of us we simply wish the Attic well on its reopening and congratulate the entire team for their hard work and sacrifices. And thank you for giving the community somewhere to o |

So let's end this debate right now.
You a hairdresser who charges woman more than men for "cutting hair" should charge the same?
Firstly the prices are not set because of the the sex of a person the prices are lower to encourage woman to the club(s) a practice used by every club up and down the country. Staff are required and therefore there are costs associated to the management single males who don't follow rules and require staff to handle situations 9/10 caused by single males.
Prices are set by competition ad supply and demand. The Equality Act which The Attic has had to read through, study and understand as the act works along side building regulations as with a lot of legislation can be open to interpretation but ultimately the "service" provided differs, woman want protection men in some circumstances want something else. Away from the "club" there is a business that needs to pay rent and utilities to name but two bills. And therefore sets out forecasts to be able to cover those costs accordingly hence the pricing strategy in place.
The Attic is also very comparable on prices for clubs up and down the country so sadly you chose the wrong end of the stick, the wrong area to try and debate and the wrong club to debate it to |

Go and sue them if you are that bothered? But it's fairly common knowledge as to why it's priced this way. You'd know that if you went to other clubs who, surprise surprise, also have the same pricing structure! Plus, it's a bargain for a single guy and consider yourself lucky you even have the opportunity to be present! |

Easy answer ... don't go. It would probably be a waste of the entry fee for you anyway because nobody would want to involve you

The user could have searched in the forum for the many discussions on this, over the years. The Attic has had more than enough knocks, since it planned to reopen. There's an abundance of goodwill to the team, for all they've been through.
I'm disappointed at not being with them in opening week but I've got family caring issues to address. Hope everyone's had a fantastic time |

"How do you get round the Equality Act 2010 with discriminatory pricing based on gender?

Seems like a fair and reasonable question to me and not sure why you have received such abuse.
£20 is my limit for these places and even though I have still to make my debut at the Attic I would feel a mug that I had paid £35.
As others have said dont like it dont go so I'd rather put that amount towards a massage with a happy ending.
I look forward to making my debut at the The Attic for one of the TV admirer days.

The Attic is one of the cheapest swingers clubs around, other clubs you would be paying £35+ to go and also a membership fee (yearly as a single guy) I don't £35 for a night out is expensive.
And difference in admittance fee based on sex is a common thing in swingers and adult club.
I'm sorry you feel this way and hope you find your happy ending. |

The Attic is most certainly different, it's an Adult/Swingers club tailoring to a different sector of the market, with 33 rooms/areas (so far) a maximum occupancy that is about as large as any other "club" in the country and a square footage available possibly unmatched by any other venue. Yet is still one of the cheapest clubs in the country.
Curious why anyone would try and compare a suana to a club, even the environments are different |
