There's been some cracking discussion on here already. Just type in coronavirus and clubs (I think one was actually spelled Choronavirus lol) in the search box and the discussions will pop up xx

My friends and I are due at a swingers club event this Thurs and have been having this discussion tonight.

I don't play at clubs, I only socialise and am wondering if I'm at any more risk there than I have been over the weekend standing in supermarket checkout queues for up to 20 mins at a time, in nine different supermarkets.

I don't think anyone knows

It's the government that are putting people at risk by not making a decision not clubs (see also pubs and restaurants) who have to choose between looking irresponsible or potentially going bankrupt

It's for club patrons to make the decision. There are many clubs, across the UK, that would never reopen if they were to close for an extended period.

Sadly it us likely that we will lose some great clubs if and when closures are enforced by government...

They simply will not be able to survive without the income, as the bills will still be coming in as they don't have massive cash pots to fall back on.

clubs are quite warm due to dressing down

hot sweaty bodies coming out rooms .... touching door handles, pushing open doors, leaning on the bar, sitting on the furniture

Clubs can be a safer, cleaner place than supermarkets etc.

Clubs have sanitizers available to use, are cleaned regularly. Plus how often do you go to a Swinger's Club compared to work or shopping.

I really fancied going back to a club, but I’m holding off because of it. I think if it’s as rife as the government are making out, it’s probably best to stay away just for now. I feel so sorry for all the venues.. but each to their own & good luck to those who do! Stay safe everyone xx

If government closed them they'd get some funding help, possible insurance claim. By saying people advised not to go is simply a cop out. Our lovely clubs, ran by hardworking people risk never opening their doors again, they are a business end of the day not a charity.

I have said this on previous threads...

Let's say you are a couple who both work full time for the same company. You rely on that company for income and you have a mortgage, bills and a family to feed. The company says that you can walk out of work now for your safety and the health of others, but you won't be paid and you won't be entitled to any sick pay. Plus, there may not be a job for you when this blows over, so if you walk, you are walking into a possible dark future.

Would you really leave voluntarily for the greater good and risk losing your home and putting your family at real risk of being on the breadline?

If your answer is yes, then you are a bigger person than I will ever be but I think you would actually be paying lip service.

please follow my green arrow and read some of my posts as it may give you our perspective and those of other clubs.

This is the problem; your post seems predicated on the notion that club owners are remaining open to line their pockets with £, when the truth us that they stay open because if they close, they will likely be bankrupt and gone within weeks.

Many clubs accounts are so tight that they genuinely operate from month to month, with minimal capital available to cover shortfalls such as unforeseen closures.

It's not stupidity, it's the nature of the business.

Why it’s just advice I will continue to go to work, yes I work in a club! It’s a choice everyone of you can make either attend or don’t? The government has given you this choice, not the clubs. They will strive to stay open and keep there businesses going, they’re are still bills to pay, rent, mortgages, gas, electric, business rates, VAT etc etc. Yes some insurances MAY cover but some will have clauses.

Remember clubs owners are real people too and have to survive somehow.

So I say make your own minds up, there’s no right or wrong here, if you or someone you’ve been in contact with has shown symptoms be responsible and keep away, if you do come along follow the guidelines that are posted around the club

Also there are a lot of clubs, ours included who have used the quieter months at the beginning of the year to do refurbs and make improvements, using any savings they had to undertake the improvements, hoping that the coffers will be replenished through the spring. Look at Le Boudoir... those guys have just moved to a new premises!!!!

If we get told by public health to close, then we will close. But until then, we will remain open for those who want to use our facilities and maintain our cleaning and sanitising regime

From what I can make out if you're normally fit and healthy there's nothing worse than the consequences of flu? I actually fall into the at risk category so won't be venturing out much. But come on the rest of you able body's don't hibernate yet unless it has really potential consequences for a vulnerable person in your life?

Good luck everyone!

If you want clubs to close, write to the government, telling them which ones, requesting funding etc, then let us have the official response.

Otherwise, the businesss can stay open, with management, staff and customers, taking appropriate steps towards managing health risks. Visitors can shower, wash hands frequently and maintain greater distances between each other than in the shops.

Stipulate the specific clubs, notify the government, then inform us of the results.

You have to remember clubs, bars, restaurants....these are all peoples place of employ. If clubs were to close they lose revenue, staff lose wages

Who picks up that tab?

It's up to an individual if they chose not to go.

Why should many owners be left bereft of income and staff unable to feed their families?

It will never be an easy decision for anyone to make but as one already stated are they at much more of a risk being in a sanitised club or a dirty supermarket??

But the sad fact is even if they stay open they'll have few/no customers, so it could cost them more to open (heating, light, staffing etc) than to make a conscious decision to close.

Well for now BoJo has only advised social distancing, the virus is spreading rapidly, hospitals will get overrun very soon, then people will start dying. 2 or 3 weeks it won't be advice from the government they will be forced to enforce all this. There will be greater suffering as a result, more businesses will fold. I don't think people have grasped how the world is changing, very rapidly. Half of europe is in lockdown, we'll be lucky if we don't end up with ration books for food

If you're worried now about not being able to pay the bills than quite frankly you have no chance, it hasn't even started here yet. There is going to be hardship, businesses will fold, lots of them. Scoff and protest as much as you want, blame the media if you wish but this is going to happen, it's already happening in lots of countries, it's time to get used to the idea

Exactly this! They might get sick pay if they are self isolating, but I think it's less than £100 a week. How are you supposed to pay your bills and get food for that?

My question to all the people saying clubs (and schools etc) should shut is do you still commute to work? Still go food and essentials shopping? Or are you in a bunker somewhere, with thousand toilet rolls? I'm going to continue as normal until I am either told otherwise or until I start feeling unwell.

Same here, but it's getting more and more difficult to ignore it. I guess I'm lucky that I have no older relatives, and that if I do have to self-isolate, I will get paid. Not sure what would happen if my workplace has to be shut for extended period of time but I'll worry about it when I have to. For now, trying to keep myself healthy but also not avoiding people.

This is what we see in most statuses here.

By your logic, all businesses must close there doors to their customers.

How long are you suggesting they should do that? Week, fortnight, month, 2 months?

I'm guessing you've never run a business.

No you can't and I doubt anyone would ever ask you to until a full lockdown happens and the daycare services shut down all non essential services but in the meantime do you still put those people at risk by going about your daily business as if everything is normal? No of course you don't, you're looking after high risk people

Make no mistake, a full lockdown is coming and the sooner people start acting with a real degree of caution the longer away and the shorter that full lockdown will be. Everyone is going on about how businesses will close, damn right they will but if everyone followed the advice given by the government there potentially will be fewer. It's a giant shit storm, there's little we can do now but try our best to lessen the impact in the long term instead of worrying about the short term. If you don't then you deserve all you get, it's no longer "IF" it's going to happen it's only "WHEN" now, lots of businesses will close, it is survival of the fittest, end of

Hard decision financially.

Fair play to the clubs that have took the responsible step to close.

Vote with your feet and mitigate the risk.

Or take the risk of spreading it further. No amount of cleaning in a club environment is going to stop the spread of this virus effectively.

I do think it's a bit crap the way the government have done it by putting the decision to shut down in the hands of business owners rather than making it themselves. It's a case of you shut yourself don't come looking for help from us. Maybe the financial help statement later might shed a little more light on it as well as a little help

having been one of the thousands of civil servants to sit in on the virus briefing call last week, i can't in all good conscience now go to clubs for the forseeable future...

my stance was "go until the advice changed!"... i went to a club on saturday! i enjoyed it!... i was going to put down my name for a friends private party today... but now after yesterday i just can't...

and this is just the starting point... this is going to be stepped up bit by bit.... now they are just "advising" you, the next step will be if people don't listen they will be "telling"" you!

people in italy didn't listen.... look where they are

people in france were not listening and look what macron has done!

this is the new reality.... just remember the support and go to clubs more often when we get out the other side of this!!!

But until then, we will remain open for those who want to use our facilities and maintain our cleaning and sanitising regime "

This sounds like it's predicated on the view that patrons are all sheep who attend clubs because they're open. Does the same idea apply to everyone who posts a meet? Every meet, club, profile that meets is the same, options for us to choose from. We're all sensible, liberated animals who can weigh the options for ourselves. If the government reduces the choices, fine. We will always have the final say with what we do or don't do. I'd rather have the choice than be dictated to locally. Like everything in life, people will have different opinions, just be happy with your choice and let other people make theirs freely too.

Be safe everyone and enjoy today, tomorrow might be the zombie apocalypse! ??????????

Public health is far more important than whether a club can survive being closed. Some clubs will survive and others won't. But new always grows from what was before.

Respect to those that have put customer safety first a closed there doors. To those who haven't then it's the owner who has to live with your conscience.

"I have said this on previous threads...

Vicky xi

If u think that’s only people in clubs that’s affected then ur wrong loads people r in same position but they doing the right thing and not putting people’s life at risk and if ur lucky have a mortgage ur probably in better position than half the country

Well I'm going to leave my comments there. I don't want to be part of an agenda.

Good luck and stay well xxxx"

Op I have to agree with Vicky and townhouse on this and it’s the customers choice to go if you are not well then don’t go to a club it’s that bloody simple. The government and the media is creating all this misinformation to distract us and tell us the actual truth and this virus is a strain of swine flu. So anyone who has had that will survive it’s stupid people that are creating this mass panic and panic buying because for what. The common cold has killed more people period than this virus has, just actually think for yourselves instead of letting the government and media think for you.

people die everyday........ these businesses will definitely die if they are boycotted....... just saying....... do you work? Do you have a job where you can work from home? Do you get sick pay? will the government look after you when the money runs out? Just minor points on the hysteria thats being created here, the answer to all those things for me is no, I'm the only person who looks after me and how many people are in my boat...... many i imagine so where you think you are considering others youre not, you're not considering the flip side

Sorry for any inconvenience, but we feel this is the most sensible course of action.

We will recommence parties as soon as we get the go ahead from Government.

Good luck and stay well xxxx

Op I have to agree with Vicky and townhouse on this and it’s the customers choice to go if you are not well then don’t go to a club it’s that bloody simple. The government and the media is creating all this misinformation to distract us and tell us the actual truth and this virus is a strain of swine flu. So anyone who has had that will survive it’s stupid people that are creating this mass panic and panic buying because for what. The common cold has killed more people period than this virus has, just actually think for yourselves instead of letting the government and media think for you. "

WTF? Bloody conspiracy theories.

I love going to Cupid’s, and I have messaged them to say thought are with them. At the moment i suppose the government has factored in if they advise that 50% won’t go to pubs and clubs, they probably have scenario planned for what happens if they advise rather than enforce.

I am not going out but have been out for a walk around the block as needed fresh air.

Yet another person who doesn't want others deciding for themselves.

Club owners/workers have rent/mortgages to pay. Them being open is not put ANYONE at risk. People who attend put THEMSELVES at risk. lol hey you're actually no more at risk to be fair....... you're at risk of having a good time mind I'd actually argue that as sex can improve mood and actually increase your resistance to things such as colds ( please remember the common cold is part of the same family of viruses) that still going to clubs and having fun is safer and better for you than going shopping. Stress lowers your immune response and I can tell you now shopping is currently bloody stressful

Since when has the common cold been a zoonotic virus? The only "sameness" is that it's a virus. it is a coronavirus still.. the common cold I mean"

Apparently there are 4 strains of CVs that are the common cold (that's not to say other viruses don't cause colds). An anology: colds are featherweight boxers, covid 19 is a new super super heavy weight boxer, the like not seen before.

"If your a club Owner and you rent the property that you are using how can you afford to close it you still have to pay rent, business rates, electric, gas, water rates , and so on

So what ur saying it’s better to put people’s life’s at risk for a £ and would not like visit ur club

It's not stupidity, it's the nature of the business."

"Will the over 70s have free will to self isolate for four months or will they face fines if they go out ?

How is this going to be enforced ?????

In Italy people going out face a €206 fine or three months in prison. 186 people were sanctioned the first day. "

More risk of social interaction in a prison... explain the logic there?

France fining €135

UK £100

"It's for club patrons to make the decision.

But the sad fact is even if they stay open they'll have few/no customers, so it could cost them more to open (heating, light, staffing etc) than to make a conscious decision to close."

If a club closes voluntarily then they still have the same bills etc to pay and staff to lay off and without pay. However, if the Government forces or compels the closure then insurance comes into play.

If anyone is concerned about going to a club at this time, that's your choice and I respect that but also if you decide to go, that is also your choice.

Don't have a go at club owners for not closing, in fact praise them for being respectful and responsible by allowing their customers to choose. It's each person's choice, at the moment, to go where and when they want to and isn't that what we should applaud not condemn?

Insurance only comes into play if you have the correct insurance, which the governing body for insurance, has just said most won't.

All types of small businesses are getting shafted, I'd hate to see swingers clubs go under due to mealy mouthed government advice. I don't envy club owners and the catch 22 they're in. They're the back bone of the swinging scene.

For reasons way too complicated and personal to go into I'm unlikely to be going to any clubs/organised socials, as much as it pains me. But I'm starting to think there's an over reaction to it all, I've just found out my local Slimming World sessions have been cancelled until further notice, I'm fuming.

There's the two extreme sides on this situation, and the emotive language and logical fallacies from both is starting to become tiresome.

Freedom of choice and speech, at this rate we're all going to be controlled and dictated to. Unfortunately if clubs, restaurants pubs etc etc get not enough footfall then closing won't be optional. This is so sad and domino effect is horrific.

Easy to say when you're not in that position.

Youve now lost your business. But you probably still owe the bank money, which they'll require you to pay back. Your staff are all redundant.

You now have no income, so are unable to pay your own bills.

You're about to have your home repossessed.

You're probably a bit hungry too. Even if you had money for food, there's none in the shops because they've been emptied by empty minded idiots.

You'll probably have to sell your high horse.

At the moment it’s mostly about common sense - people are being ‘advised’ to stay at home, this is totally different from being ‘told’ to stay at home – you have to consider your own circumstances, if you think you or your close family are at a greater risk because someone close to you has a medical condition, then do the right thing by you, it is your decision and no one has the right to say you’re wrong.

However, we work in a sector where we have been told to carry on as normal – and with this in mind and until we are told differently we will carry on with our lives as normal, so yes, we would go to a club, pub, restaurant, theatre etc until we are ‘told’ to stay at home, it’s our choice. We use common sense, if we felt unwell we would do the right thing (both of us) and self-isolate straight away for the required time.

In the meantime, we will observe social distancing and follow as much of the advice and guidance to ensure any risks are minimised as much as possible.

People make choices, clubs will stay open, most just to tread water to minimise the inevitable impact forced closure will bring, people will still visit clubs, not to infect people but to live their lives as close as possible to normality before we are all effectively put under a curfew.

So do what’s right for you – open, close, go out, stay in – but whatever you do try and understand it from another perspective and then post an opinion that not only puts your point of view across but is respectful to the person (or club) who you disagree with.

It isn't hysteria, believe me. The current guidance isn't specifically about preventing you, me or anyone from bearing the health impact of the disease, in healthy people the consequences aren't likely to be extreme and the prediction is most of us will get it anyway.

What the government are trying to do is control the rate of infection.

A million people becoming infected in a week is impossible to manage compared to a million people contracting it over a year. The NHS will collapse and more people will die.

Currently there is no vaccine, you and I are likely to be ok, but vulnerable individuals will pay the price of reckless behaviour by others.

thank you....... sometimes people are so blase they think they are bulletproof... its always "someone elses family"....

so lets put in numbers why the NHS and the govt are trying to squash this as much as possible,.... and i'll use the figures the governor of new york.

lets for this example, say the UK has a population of 60 million....

now.... they reckon that roughly 60% of the population will get this at some point..... and of that "60%" they reckon that about 15% of those will be in a bad enough shape they will need some sort of hospital care.....

now do you know how many ICU beds the UK has across the NHS at the moment.... roughly somewhere around 5-6 thousand!!

Italy at the beginning of this had around about twice as many ICU beds that we do.........

if people are wandering around asymptomatic... you may be spreading it around to people without ever realising it, to people with immune systems not as great as yours!!!!

but hey.... thats their fault!!!! right!!!

The clubs management have made the decision to close the club on Sunday 22nd March.

This is a controlled run / shut down of the club events on top of the measures we announced some days ago.

All current events, until that date will go ahead as planned. We will then periodically review the situation, taking advice from local health authorities & central government decisions.

This approach will allow the business / staff to mitigate risk to both themselves and our loyal customers.

Our staff have been fantastic in support of the club & we give them our thanks & look forward to the future when we are able to re-open. Our staff have families, bills etc to pay like everyone else.

This leaves attendance as a CHOICE for each & every customer to make for themselves and their own personal circumstances.

We trust this step presents a sensible approach to what is a truly awful and terrible unprecedented global health threat. Stay safe / stay healthy xxx Cupids.

The govt is looking to trial a vaccine in April and have a nationally available one within a year (of the start of the virus).

BBC NEWS (third guy on the podium next to bojo).

Hes may be lying because they don't have an antibody test yet never mind a vaccine.

He may be referring to an anti viral to treat the symptoms as they have already been trailed in the US, I think it's one they developed for Ebola"

I was wondering whether I was using the most appropriate word in the first instant and should have stated treatment (and he did add something about several in circulation due to other viruses, so perhaps they are working on adapting those with positive results on the poor lab rats).

Don't go, simples it's personal choice. Clubs are businesses end of the day, same as restaurants.
