Well it was unusually quiet last Wednesday , due no doubt to the dreaded virus. I suspect it will be the same on 18th so I may give it a miss

Had planned on going but decided against it after being placed in Isolation by the new Government recommendations and my Renal Transplant Doctor advising me. Then thinking about it, i thought why aren't all clubs closing. As clean and disaffected a club is you can't guarantee members of staff wont already pass on infection that they are not even aware of...

Part of me thinks its irresponsible to stay open.. then part of me thinks, fill your boots...

Those who are going be safe.. xxx

Its a difficult one, but way I see it, it's likely we'll all get it at some time, and if I were to get it now, I'm unlikely be very poorly, and then leaves me free to look after and help people.

What people seem to miss, ok you’re willing to take the risk. Great, your choice. You’re then infected and can pass it in to those who don’t want it. Like drink driving, if it only affected the person who chooses to drink then it wouldn’t be an issue, wrap your Ford Focus around a tree. But you could plow into a bus queue, your decisions have consequences to those who haven’t given consent.

There are so many variables, but it seems we won't outrun it, so getting it now so I can be most useful afterwards fits my logic and circumstances.

I wouldn’t go in order to mitigate the risk to my elderly family and others.

However I can see why Clubs are staying open until they are told not to. Must be a very worrying time.

I hope clubs make it through this

We're not meeting at all as I have been speaking to my colleagues in China and they are telling me that apparently a significant number of those who recover have significant lung damage that looks like it could be permanent. The details on this are unclear as most cases in China haven't been long recovered but it could be a significant complication so avoiding getting it at all is best.

We're not to worried about the virus as we're not in the vulnerable group but obviously taking precautions not to pass it on to anyone who is (or others in general). In relation to the permanent lung damage (we're not covid-19 experts but we're well read on the latest medical papers), all research would suggest that those outside of the vulnerable groups recover within 3 to 5 days. The symptoms for the majority of the population are comparable to a mild flu, of those suffering lung damage they have been observed in the at risk category, and of those affected in that category it has been roughly 1 in 6. There has been an observed reduction of between 20% to 30% lung capacity, it is to early to tell if the damage is permanent however the lungs are an amazing organ which have shown amazing abilities to self repair.

Again we're not experts, we just like to read up on these things to make a balanced decision based on current observations. If in doubt take all the precautions you can and we respect those doing so, for us the risk appears to be minimal to non existent but for those at risk it's worth taking the extra precautions.

Hope everyone remains healthy and well and we'll all soon be back to being complete and utter deviants! xx

Yeah, the issue with that is that this data won't exist in the rest of the world as the virus hasn't been prevalent for very long here so there is no research to read (also, it will be many months before good research exists) so I'm much happier to play it safe for now. I'm just going from what my Chinese colleague has told me has started to be reported in China over the past few days. You only need to be aware of the change in advice over Ibuprofen over the past few days to see how things can change rapidly.

My colleague in China is very switched on and is quite alarmed at the lack of action being taken here, but we both put it down to us not having had SARS in the UK so people are more ambivalent and don't get how serious this could be.

There's actually a fair amount of data currently out there, don't get us wrong there's still a whole load of unknown elements to this virus but the observational data on those that have contracted the virus and recovered is pretty sizable. There was an interesting study undertaken in Germany after a number of factory workers contracted the virus, they all voluntarily agreed to a hospital isolation trial, a large number of those were asymptomatic, those who were symptomatic recovered in the observed time frame of 3 to 5 days, none required any advance form of medical treatment. They have shown no long lasting effects from the virus and are still attending hospital to see if reinfection is a possibility.

We do however respect that this is only a tiny observational study and there is still plenty more data to gather, just wanted to offer up the information we have read from a number of sources so far and respect the fact there's still a lot of contradictory information being published.

But we have to agree that a country with first hand experience of a virus like SARS probably has a better understanding of the measures needed to prevent the spread and ultimately control the virus. The world should be looking to them for advice on these matters and following suit until a more proven method of control is established. Like we said we're not concerned about the health implication of catching the virus but we're certainly taking measures to maximize our safety and minimize the risk to others.

If China has been honest about it's infection rate and numbers they have managed to limit the spread of the virus to 80,894 at time of typing, this is around 0.0625% of the population. To control the spread of the virus to less than 1% in the time frame is amazing and shows that the measures they have taken are effective. And of those infected 69,614 are reported as recovered and discharged with the remaining infected displaying either mild or serious conditions.

For the u.k to echo this kind of achievement we would have to limit the spread to around 7,000 persons, something tells me that's not going to happen.

Hope your colleague in China is safe and well and fingers crossed they have managed to contain it as reported.

xx
