Hey All,
I'm a photographer who has booked his place on the focus photography event on feb 1st. Would anyone be interested in getting a free portrait? I'm a seasoned professional, will be using studio lighting and will be doing lots of post-processing to enhance the image. I mainly want portraits of people well established in the scene and are comfortable on camera.
If you're a regular at townhouse or intend to go to the event get in contact. Hopefully we can start planning a shoot.
All photos will be free as long as I am allowed to use for self promotion etc.
Please get in contact if interested.
Thanks, |

"So you are asking for people to give up their rights to the photos to you?"
Yes of course. I'm a photographer after all. That's what I ask for whenever i take a photo unless it's taken on public property.
They would of course be made aware of my intentions and how I am going to use the photo but yes I would own copyright |

I don't see any issue with this, so long as everything is agreed before hand. At the end on the day the person who clicks the button owns the copyright no matter what, but it's only polite to discuss use first. Before anyone mentions model release they're not a legally binding document in the UK,but may help if you have a dispute after. |

Yeah I always agree everything with them and make sure they have access to my website so they know how it's being used. I have ko intentions of exploiting anyone. I do get people to sign a model release so there can be no disputes but I also give copies of the photos I use once edited. Think free pro shots are a good exchange for copyright. |

A photographer always owns the rights to their work, unless you buy it from them or trade it in agreement. If you use someone’s materials, skills, equipment & time, you have no rights to something unless you pay for it.
The way the event works is that the model & tog agree up front what they are both happy with.
My profile photo was taken by a lovely tog at one of these events - the very lovely ‘Lost Sock’ on here. I also use it on promo material for my event & credit him with the picture. That was his only stipulation for me using it. And if he wants to use it in a portfolio of his work, that’s fine, as it’s part of what we agreed up front. |

because sometimes profesionals like to have a practice try new teqniques lighting styles etc and do not think its fair to charge in such circumstances .i personaly wish to try some pinup style images in thr future and know its a bit much to charge someone for what may turn out to be crap images . also some times its fun just to shoot with someone for fun and mutual benefit |

"Why would you do it for free ? A professional charges for his services ."
I do it for a living - my paid for work is completely different (industrial fittings - sexy hey!) to anything that I shoot to satisfy my creative enjoyment.

Because I'm a documentarian. I don't charge because if I get images and a narrative that's strong enough I can use them for a project.
Just because there's no money exchanging hands doesn't make it any less professional |

"Do you have a website so we can see examples of your work here agreeing? "
Yes amongst other social media. I'll show this to those who are interested and have voiced what they want from the shoot. I've got a few ideas floating about so it would be nice to discuss these with those interested or already attending |

True that! I'm just really into abstract portraiture. Love taking pictures of people with off the camera flash in new venues so this sort if thing is perfect for me. Got my assistant coming with me as well and she'll do a more fly on the wall approach whilst I mess about with flash guns |

Ooo - thank you for the mention, M.
Just to say - I’m just an amateur, who has developed a love of photography (in many forms) in the last few years. I don’t even consider myself a “tog” .
I only say that because it may be different for more serious photographers. I don’t have a portfolio etc. For me, it was the chance to take a different type of photo and experience a club for the first time.
Just to add - the event and club were excellent and Morticia was so welcoming to a nervous first-timer. It’s a really nice event. |

Thanks for the advice! Meant to write this message last week but forgot. Anyhow, There's a definite difference between the way amateurs and professionals work but that doesn't make you any less of a "tog" my friend. Usually just a difference in the price of your kit and knowledge using it anyway.
I don't feel any more of a photographer now than I did 20 years ago when I first got a decent camera. With year of experience I'm sure you're good and just modest |

Thanks for the kind words!
I was definitely the one with the least kit there .
I know kit isn’t everything though. I do feel I’ve learnt a lot since I got into photography and have a decent eye.
I’d definitely like to go back to the Townhouse sometime! |

"The next shoot is the 1st February and the full event details are linked from the What's On page on our website. Tickets have already been sold and I have around 15 tickets left x"
Thanks - I’ve been checking the website every now and then.
I may well not make this one (I live a longgggg way away). Hopefully soon though.

It’s hilarious reading all the ‘creative’ and ‘artistic’ reasons these so called professional photographers give for not charging for their professional services when taking photos of naked and semi naked people when knows it’s an excellent ruse to have a good perv and even to try to get a bit of action . |

Our shoots are strictly no play with boundaries on how the pics are used by both parties. Most of our togs are professional and wouldn't risk their reputation.
Our shoots are not advertised on here as they involve vanilla model and togs who just want to use a different venue. But it is also a good opportunity to get profile pics for people on the scene and work with experienced photographers.
Our events are advertised on professional photography websites and many of our photographers are published in magazines.
HOWEVER, I have been on shoots where togs have taken advantage of the situation and there were no shoot guidelines or monitoring.
Please don't bundle our professional outfit along with the seedy side of photography...we are not this. |

"Oh and while I'm here, February is sold out, so the next shoot is in April
Please can you put me down for April, will have recovered from my op by then "
You need to email the club directly for this event lovely |

"Dependant on the April date I would be interested. I’d like to see examples of the photographers work though. (Our of curiosity really) "
It’s April 4th
It depends what photographers attend the event ... once it’s up & running, there is usually a forum event so people can chat, link up, see if they want to pair up.
Some ‘togs just come along to see who is there; some bring models with them for a pre-arranged session. Sometimes it’s just a couple with an iPhone wanting to take some more intimate photos for themselves or their fab profile. |

Morticia’s avatar was taken by an extremely highly skilled tog at one of these events |
