Yes, they do alternate Saturdays for couples and single ladies and then the other Saturdays mixed.
You're better going when it is nicely busy than very quiet. If you go when its quiet there might be you and a couple of couples you're not keen on. Busy is nice to socialise, but not feel awkward if there's only people you aren't keen on.
In the bar area you are always going to feel comfortable anyway.
