I would of thought it shut for good, the place has been a dive for years that really needs renovating... I've been a handful of times over the years and its been worthless, never any action or many people either! |

I know it only by reputation and avoid it.
But I also know the fire was caused by someone either placing or dropping a whole bottle of bsby oil or similar on the coals in the sauna about 2 weeks ago.
They reopen December 2nd. |

It may just be me.....but I can't find anywhere where he said or implied the fire had anything to do with the owner |

The club doesn't have much in the way of a social area and last time i was there quite a few of the younger women were all wearing swimming costumes, it's meant to be naturalist?
If you compare it to other clubs within the M25, it's just not even in the same league.
The lack of a real social area means that it's very hard to strike up a conversation with anyone so leads to a very weird vibe.

The fire is maybe what was needed to kick the owners up the butt?
I know the family who own it, I used to go to school with the daughter... Her dad owns lots of property and the Chariots chain of gay saunas. it's not like the money isn't there to invest in making it better, I just feel they lack vision. |

I don't believe anybody said it was.
I just thought it might be helpful to pass on info my girlfriend (who is a Rios regular) heard from Rios management.
Only a small area was damaged in the aforementioned incident and they are set to reopen on 2 December. |

I've been to Rio many times in the past 10 years. I've always had a good time. There are plenty of places to talk and meet new interesting people. Just be social and pleasant, and let the conversation flow. It's not always about playing. But if you do then that's a bonus. |

"wow they must be working really hard to meet that deadline"
From what I have heard, there really wasn't all that much to do in order to re-open. The damage was not inside the building but to outbuildings. Everything indoors is fine.
It's just not got the kind of atmosphere that I like so I don't go there...but know several people who do, which is where the info comes from. |

It is not naturist all the time. Please check the website. It tells you what days are naturist and what days are textile. The mantra 'not all naturists are swingers and not all swingers are naturists' need to be observed at Rio's.
I go to Rio's. I do not use it for swinging. I use it for the sauna facilities. I also wear a swimsuit, because increasingly women are constantly hit on as it is assumed by some that we are there for their entertainment. We are not. I am afraid that you will increasingly see women wearing swimsuits to Rio's.
"

That is not necessarily due to the fixture, fittings or interior design of Rios. Women are tend to be very suspicious of men who constantly hit upon by men. It can be terrible. The constant harrassment, Benny Hill dances can create atmosphere of resentment and suspicion. I have seen women in floods of tears in the dressing room because of it. The weird vibe is a result of aggressive chasing. It is VERY aggressive. Check the reviews and see.
Why do women go to Rios? Maybe they should go somewhere else. But where? All the local municipal saunas have now been gentrified and charge a lot of money and you can only stay a couple of hours for twice amount of money. I've spoken to a lot of irritated women who find that quite a lot of men won't take no for an answer. They just want to unwind at the end of the working day and not deal with that shit.
I like Rio's. It's quirky. It's funny. It's eccentric. I get that people want to go there to play. The restrooms are there for that purpose. Have your fun. Go for it. However, some women don't and don't deserve to be chased all over the place. Saying no once should be the end of the matter. Unfortunately, it isn't, and one does not have to put one's foot down. Very often it is stamped down.
I would also like to say that I am not going say that all the men are like that. In fact, I've been to socials and had a chat with a fellow sauna fan. They also use the sauna for the facilities.
I just find it wrong that if they (or indeed anyone) mention that they do use Rio's that they are people who chase people all over the shop, and are deemed to be people of dubious standards in who they play with. It is rather judgemental. I find it even more judgemental when people say that they use it as a filter for people.
I find it annoying that even though I use it for the most innocent of purposes, I am seen as a person of dubious standards. I mean, does everyone go there for a shag? So it's okay for people not to play in Kestrels, but it's rather strange not to in Rio's? Bloody hell...
Sorry, had to have the rant. I couldn't wait till Thursday. |

It's true. Once the regulars know you, they really do look after you. It's lovely when they do that. It's rather touching. You can have a real good chat for hours.
You'll meet the duke right down to the dustman at Rio's, and the charming thing is you'll never know who or what they are until much much much later. Or you'll never find out at all. It is a quirky, funny, witty place. I have made some good friends there. It's true. It is what you make it.

I agree. Been several times & not been harassed at all. But had a few instances of guys not being respectful. On the whole, it's a great place to unwind for a bit. |

"Maybe the fire has disinfected the joint. It was filthy the two times I have been there"
Did you let them know? Some of the fixtures and fittings are old. That's true. It doesn't mean that it's filthy. It may need replacing, but it is clean. I've seen them do routine cleaning about the place too.
If I or any other person tells them that something or somewhere needs cleaning then they do it straight away. If not, then I'm outta there.
I'm serious about that.

I told them about the threadbare towels and about the slimy steamroom
Nothing changed the next time I was there. The towels were still threadbare and the steamroom was still slimy. Two months should have been enough to sort this out
Not going back there again |

I do find Rio's a pretty cool place to hang out for an evening and it always seems clean but agree about the towels and always take my own. |

Well, housekeeping and cleaning is a cyclical loop, I guess. They must've have cleaned it many times within the 2 months you've been there! Just ask for a newer towel and they clean the room? I have asked, and it's been done. No biggie. I've never seen any long term slime there btw. Not any slime to be honest. And if I did, I'd be outta there.
I get what you're saying, but I haven't seen it.
But I suppose it doesn't matter now, as you said you're not going back...
Horses for courses and all that. If Rio's is not for you, then it's not for you, I guess.... |

Yes, exactly. Your experience was better than mine
How clean it is when I wasn't there does not matter to me; what matters to me is how clean a place is when I am there
Rio's is not the only below par venue I have been to. There are a few more and if it bothers me enough, I do tell someone who looks like they are 'in-charge'. But I won't say it more than the one time
I guess it is like a bad night in a club full of obnoxious men. Once is probably a fluke; if it happens twice in a row then it is probably the norm |

"I guess your not really harassed that much if your with your partner "
Well you shouldn't be harassed at all!
And the comment above seems to say 'oh look, I'm a couple....and look at that single female being chased around the place...'
It just seems that there is some sort of hierarchy and single females are fair game. Are we at the bottom of the heap to be chased around for other's entertainment?
I guess for couples it must be so entertaining to watch. No need to watch the TV, read newspapers, watch telly or converse with other people, is there? Just watch the single female being chased.
Does it mean that I'm forced to hook up with someone so I don't get harassed?
Lovely.
Just as well that I use it for non sexual purposes and chat to the regulars then and avoid couples who think single women chasing is a bit of a safari.
I think I'm going to mention this again.
Not all naturists are swingers. Not all swingers are naturists.
Look, this is turning into a rant. It's only bloody Tuesday....

"No the website says it is reopening next Thursday 8th December "
Let's hope they can stick to this date. Been ages since I last went.
If the area actually affected by the fire was quite small, I hope they've taken the opportunity to do some much-needed (in my opinion) refurb. work generally around the whole venue. Somehow I doubt they have, but hope to be pleasantly surprised.
Assuming they do re-open on the 8th, pity I can't go next Saturday evening. Sigh. |
