Hi. Just thought I'd let everyone know that after the fire at Rios spa in Kentish Town London, they will be closed for at least the next two weeks.
When I called them, the person who answered suggested calling back in a couple of weeks for an update. I didn't ask them any further details but going by the newspaper articles, no-one was hurt thankfully.
I'm not sure of the extent of the damage. |

"Let's hope they get up and running again very soon. "
Yes. Was planning to go this evening (Sat), so was lucky I happened to see the article in the Evening Standard about it.
Very glad I wasn't there when it happened and that no-one was hurt.
I wonder what caused it. |

I was there the day before
Seems the fire was at the back and reportedly in the rear sauna.
Some of the news reports were obviously made up. "Unsubstantiated reports of women outside wearing towels" no mention of guys. Since the ratio is about 20/1 guys to women clearly it was made up lol. Unless of course the guys manage to get changed quicker than superman. Saying that i think i would have been changed out and down the road before theyd finished shouting "fire" |

Yes I was wondering that (women outside wearing towels), unless the journalist was being VERY selective.
I do wonder what caused it to start - if anyone was doing anything stupid. Hopefully their insurance will cover it and they can repair the damage quickly. Somehow I think they will be shut for longer than two weeks. |

Now I'm not expert but having worked at a place which had Jacuzzis and saunas before (not naturist or swinger) I would imagine an electrical malfunction with the heating causing it to overheat and cause a fire would be the cause. |

"Some idiot threw baby oil on the sauna. Can't help imagining the scene in the back rooms as they all scrambled to get out "
Well, if that's what caused it then I hope they identified who did it. Unlikely, I know though.
One of the things that puts me off Rios a bit and makes me only want to go on couples night (like I was going to last Sat evening ) is the cocky arrogant "I'll do what I want" attitude of an inconsiderate minority who go. Plenty of times I've seen people put things on the saunas they should or put towels over the lights in the steam rooms, holding sauna/steam room doors open for a while or not bothering to close them properly when leaving, knocking on relaxation room doors etc... Really irritates me to observe.
OK rant over

"Any thoughts on alternatives?"
Alternative places to go while Rios are closed?
Kestrels near Heathrow or Paradise Spa in Chadwell Heath are two places with similar facilities that spring to mind. |

Kestrel-best choice as open all day /eve
Hellfire - not a spa, but dungeon offers early weadnesdays newbies mingle party (appointment/registerring prior visit needed)
Eureka in kent is great in the summer but also lively during the rest of the year..
Daghenams Paradise Spa is similar to. Rios somewhat too..
Good luck.. |

"Just been told rios is open again "
Just called Rios and was told they are still closed and will be for three to four weeks.
Although I don't know the extent of the damage, I would have been surprised if they'd been in a position to open again so soon after. |
