Clubs that charge for condoms
Jump to: Newest in thread
We've visited the majority of clubs in the north and midlands and a few down south and numerous abroad
Now in most clubs we've found condoms are free and easily available
What do people think the minority of clubs that charge for condoms
Do you think this should be covered by admission charge?
Do you think these clubs aren't promoting safe sex enough? Or even do you think there penny pinching?
Please discuss

Considering they are probably getting them for nothing it's definitely penny pinching. Was surprised when visiting a club in the north of England we had to buy condoms whereas in other clubs they're freely available throughout. In saying that it's still the best club we've been to |

"They are businesses not charities, if they are buying them you will be paying for them in some way if not overtly.
"
Totally agree. If people are going along intending to play surely they can remember their favourite condoms, lube and maybe a toy.
Those at the clubs tend to be for "emergency " use, maybe someone genuinely forgot some or are playing more than they expected ?? |

Sorry but Terrence Higgins will give them to clubs for free!!
We get 600 condoms a week from THT for FREE, so there is no way we would charge for them.
Yes, people should be responsible for their own sexual health but as a club promoting sexual activities, they should also be responsible and supply condoms and there is no reason to pay for them when they can be obtained for free.
For those clubs who are buying them and charging, just contact your local THT and they will sort you out with as many condoms as you want in all different shapes, sizes and colours; they will also supply Dams and water based lube in boxes of 500. |

This. We actually don't get through that many as people bring their preferred brands. I think I sold all of three last night |

I wouldn't expect them to be free and would not begrudge paying for them. Safe Sex is a personal responsibility.
The fact a club gets them and hands them out for free is fantastic though but it should not be on them. |

" Not often I disagree with my friends up North, but TH is a charity, and as such we try to support them. We buy the condoms in from either TH or the local NHS clinic, and then sell them at 50p for 2 from the bar. We then donate back to TH once a year. In all honesty here most folks bring their own, think we sold maybe 5 last night, so maybe 50 or so needed per month. 600 a week would swamp us. Sinking in a sea of condoms! lol. We once visited a club who had loads lying around on all the beds, plus lube etc, and watched as throughout the night people popped them in pockets to take home with them. Appreciate they'll still get used at some point, but did seem a little strange watching stuff being taken like that. We've also found historically if you don't do Gay/Bi nights or events, many of these suppliers are reluctant to supply FOC. |

And even condoms have use by dates ! I bet many of those taking the free ones end up using them as balloons or water bombs |

Charities are there for those who cannot afford to pay
Most people attending clubs can pay and should either bring their own or pay for these
Good on you to donate the sales to the charity |

"Many people remember to bring tissues, maybe a flannel, towel, change of clothes so it can't be that hard to remember to bring condoms as well ?"
It's amazing how many men will turn up to a meet without them so I guess an equivalent number of women and couples will arrive at a club unprepared. |

Clubs provide a safe relaxed place to meet play etc. They are a business and have to make a profit for the club to stay open. You want to play bring your own condoms or buy them from the club |

It should have said per month, not per week! We'd be drowning in them! Lol
We have regular charity events, raffles etc...and some of these events are for Terence Higgins.
Every All male Kink event we have raises money for Terence Higgins. We have Terence Higgins charity boxes at the club where people can wear their ribbon in return.
We get Terence Higgins in regularly to do STI checks and then run a drop in facility at the club..people donate to them on those days and nights too.
So I believe we give plenty back to Terence Higgins over a year in return for our condoms xxx |

I get mine from the GUM clinic & ask for double. Our family planning clinic only provide to under 25's now.
Personally I think they should be free to everyone - it would probably save the government more money in the long run (but that's another conversation!) |

I can't believe people can moan about buying condoms at clubs. You must plan to go to the club......so why wouldn't you take your own preferred brand with you. If you forget, why should you expect the club to subsidise you.
Safe sex is the individuals responsibility ! |

No point been missed. If people carry condoms they wont need or have expectation for others to provide them then complain when a club dares to charge ££ for the pleasure of their ££.

This is going full circle. Anyone should take/buy their own condoms then they wont need to buy them off the club. But if they dont take/buy their own condoms then it's a bit ironic to be complaining when being charged for them.
Most condoms machines bars, clubs, pubs charge for them. Most if not all pharmacies charge for them. Is that disgusting too Maybe the club are just passing on their purchase costs of condoms onto those that need them.

You go all over the country and world swinging good effort After the cost of all that swinging travel I'm suprised the purchasing of condoms in ONE club is such an emotive issue lmfao.
In contrast I wouldn't let the purchasing of condoms bother, just purchase them ffs |

Side note: is a club that sells rather than gives away condoms not promoting safe sex? (As in the OP)
I'd say that you can promote something while still charging for it. Every licensed establishment (bar, pub, club etc) has a duty to promote responsible drinking. The ultimate in responsible would be to not sell the drinks but they still do. And yet, they still won't serve you if you're intoxicated and won't let you drive.
In terms of safe sex, clubs promote this by encouraging condom use, either by freely available ones or bring/buy your own. Promoting something is in the culture, not necessarily in the sales |

The point of this thread was if condoms lube etc should be free and gratis in the admission fee to a club
Somehow this original question has digressed
Could we all stick to the original debate please.. |

It's nice that clubs give condoms away for free - but it would also be great if they offered a variety of premium brands for sale behind the bar.
Like, we basically only ever use one type and one brand for penetration, and occasionally we have brought less with us than we thought we did... so it would have been good to buy them in that circumstance. |

Anyone who is on a planned visit to a club and doesn't take their own condoms is being more than a bit irresponsible. But if they are available at the club to purchase then what is the problem.
If the club gets them free then they should give them free. But if they have paid for them then the customer should pay for them too.
This notion that as customers we should get everything for free these days is odd to say they least.
We've been to clubs where condoms have been free in baskets in playrooms and watched couples pack them into their pockets and bags by the bucket full. Hardly fair on the other customers or the club even if the club does get them free. But if the club had bought them we would consider it downright rude.
There is also such a range of condoms by size and properties such as latex free, quality etc Like everything in life find what suits you best and stop expecting the rest of the world (clubs) to do it for you.

"Do you think this should be covered by admission charge?"
Most certainly not. So far we have only played between ourselves and Im sure many others do too, so thanks to the doc [snip snip], we dont need them for ourselves.
Therefore why should people like us have our membership levied just because some people are too tight to put their hand in their pocket.
If you pulled in a normal pub, would you expect your local to give them to you? Where would you get them from if you got a regular girlfriend?
While I think clubs are right to charge, I think 'penny pinching' would be to set the price too high like the vending machines in loos. £1 a piece is no bother and if you're lucky enough to cum 2 or 3 times in the night, then im sure the additional 1 or 2 £1's is well worth it |

Irrespective of if free ones are availible we wouldn't dream of clubbing without our own condoms.
It's not like you was popping out and stumbled into a club.
But if we needed one, I don't think paying for one is a massive issue. |

It's the same sort of thing as taking soap/shower caps etc from hotels or stocking up sugar sachets at Costas |
